With Sports being encouraged by the government, Odisha’s CM Naveen Patnaik launched a Rs.120 crore sports projects through a video conference to boost the development of sports in Sambalpur, Odisha on Saturday. With the vision of ‘sports for youth, youth for future’, the projects will initiate the further development of sports in the Sambalpur district.
CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the stadium
The Burla Indoor Stadium was inaugurated today by CM Naveen Patnaik. This will help the sports culture of the district to grow further. The stadium will work as a foundation laid for Sambalpur Football Academy and Hockey Stadium as well as for the Sambalpur University sports complex. The complex is built on a budget of 32 crores where 10.35 crores were funded by MCL ( Mahanadi Coalfields Limited ) and 7.5 crores from the central government. 5T Chairman VK Pandian coordinated the function.
With a seating capacity of 400 spectators, The Burla Indoor Stadium has four badminton courts along with a centralized AC in the dressing room, A fully equipped gym, a first-aid room, and a few Multipurpose rooms made for the engagement of Indoor games like Chess and Carrom. The Arena is well-furnished with wooden synthetic flooring and BWF ( Badminton World Federations) lighting system for an international experience to the badminton players.
Sambalpur Football Academy
Sambalpur district is famous for its interest in the area of Football. Keeping this in notice, CM Naveen Patnaik said that a Sambalpur Football Academy is being built to develop the interest of the people in the sport further. The development of this academy will provide top-notch coaching facilities to the young local talents and will build a platform for showcasing it. With a budget of 17 crores, the academy will have a gallery which will have the capacity of over 1000 spectators. The arena will have a FIFA-sized natural turf along with a floodlight system. It will also have a Kabaddi court.
Sambalpur University sports complex
The Sambalpur University sports complex will have a Hockey Stadium. The stadium will be designed with a Category 1 FIH certified Hockey turf, an FIH-recommended sports lighting system, and the capacity of accommodating 3000 people with seats for differently abled people. Additionally, The stadium will also have a special gymnasium and several facilities for players alongside special dignitary seating arrangements.
The Hockey stadium will also contain a multipurpose indoor stadium with an arena of BWF standard badminton courts for several other sports like Volleyball, Basketball, Table Tennis, and Kho-Kho. The stadium will contain a capacity of over a thousand people as spectators. The Multipurpose Indoor stadium will also feature a fitness center. Not just that, The Indoor stadium will have different coach rooms, a medical room, and a specially dedicated weight-lifting room for encouraging the weight-lifting culture in the region. The arena will host several regional-level competitions across several sports.
The Hockey Stadium with a multipurpose indoor arena will be developed with a budget of Rs. 70 crores funded by the Odisha State government. The Chief Minister said that these developments will further strengthen the interest of the local young talents into sports on a higher level.
