Seoul Fashion Week, which began on 1st February, is off to an early start this season, showing off its 2024 Fall/Winter (F/W) collection. And this time, Dongdaemun is not the only place to watch out for. The fashion scene expands beyond the well-known fashion capitals, and Seoul Fashion Week is an indication of that. Over at the thriving Jung District, industry’s tycoons showcase their collections for the fall/winter season, from understated subtleties to revolutionary takes on street wear.
Seoul Fashion Week was held six weeks prior to last year, getting a kickstart before the “Big Four” fashion weeks — New York, London, Milan and Paris — to attract major buyers and grasp media attention. The city released a Seoul Fashion Week promotional poster covering a photo of the K-pop group New Jeans- their ambassador. The released poster portrays the members donning outfits from the collections of brands participating in the 2024 F/W Seoul Fashion Week to bring greater attention.

While Seoul Fashion Week continues its run at Dongdaemun Plaza (DDP), this year witnesses a new runway at SFactory, a cultural complex in the centre of Seongsu-dong, eastern Seoul. Here, the expertise of Korean designers’ rule as they reconstruct fashion and build roots in the tailored landscape. Julycolumn kicked off the runway with ‘Homo Archivist: The Weaver of Tomorrow’ collection, putting emphasis on heritage and craftsmanship, capturing the delicate craftsmanship of binding the past with the future.
Elsewhere, the fashion-forward mass brought a wild style to the streets of Dongdaemun, as people fashioned all-black ensembles with slavish furs, leather pants and chic frames. Bold crimson hues appeared to be the colour of the season, worn on oversized jackets and trousers, coupled with the occasional beret.
Despite the compact schedule, Seoul Fashion Week has stretched out its wings both in terms of location and programs. With the main venue in the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), the event is simultaneously being held at SFactory. Of a total of 21 fashion brands participating in runway shows this season, six of them were held at SFactory.
To make good use of the charm of the area, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the organiser of Seoul Fashion Week, has added a brand-new showroom tour for foreign buyers that allows them to navigate flagship stores of selected local brands. The program is a fresh attempt at increasing the magnitude of Seoul Fashion Week to other parts of the city and to secure more international clients.
The event featured South Korean soprano, Hera Hyesang Park, K-pop girl group NewJeans- the ambassador for Seoul Fashion Week, and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon who attended the show as spectators. Meanwhile, BLACKSWAN took Seoul Fashion Week by storm with an exhilarating performance of their hit song, “Karma.” Their powerful stage presence and flair captivated the audience, increasing the vibrancy of the event. In an entertaining and unexpected twist, the group extended their skills beyond music as they decided to hit the runway for the famous clothing brand GREEDILOUS. This crossover added a delightful dimension to the fashion week, as they expertly blended the spheres of music and fashion with finesse.
Yesterday, the 2024 Seoul FW came to a successful end. This year, the scale of the show expanded even further in comparison with the previous years.
This season’s runway event featured 21 Korean fashion designer brands, while a total of 68 local fashion houses participated in the show’s trade fair, where 101 global buyers from 23 countries were expected to attend for potential purchasing deals. As we bid farewell to 24 FW Seoul Fashion Show Week, we also look forward to the upcoming 25SS Seoul Fashion Week with great anticipation.
