PRECAUTIONS TO BE MADE DURING AN EARTHQUAKE
Before an earthquake, sit on your hands and knees to protect yourself from falling. Cover your head and neck under a sturdy table or desk, or near low-lying furniture. Hold onto your shelter until the shaking stops, and be prepared to move with it.
Never place yourself under anything that could topple over on you, such as a tall bookcase. Cover your head and neck with pillows if you’re in bed. Don’t go outside if you are inside. Avoid using the roads. If you’re outside, go away from any potentially unstable structures. Keep to open spaces devoid of any trees, structures, or electricity lines. When an earthquake occurs while you’re driving, pull over to a roomy, open location away from any trees or power lines. Parking brake set. Remain inside the car. Avoid using the elevator if you are in a workplace, school, or retail center. Go up the stairs.
