Israeli tanks were found near the tent camp of the Al-Mawasi- ‘safe zone’ after killing several in the last strike
The military campaign in Gaza has led to a staggering toll, with 37,598 fatalities and 86,032 people wounded since October 7. Israel cites these actions as necessary “operational activities” to compel the release of Israeli captives held by Hamas. In response, a demonstration erupted in Tel Aviv, denouncing the government’s inability to secure the hostages’ return. Meanwhile, widespread criticism has emerged online regarding Israel’s approach, raising concerns about its relationships with allies such as the USA and other nations. Despite the growing pressure, Israel remains resolute in its pursuit of “operational activities” in Gaza against Hamas.
The recent attacks
On Sunday, a devastating airstrike took place near Gaza, targeting a training college that also functioned as an aid center and distribution point for relief supplies in Gaza. Tragically, 8 individuals lost their lives in this attack. Additionally, Israeli tanks were reported to have advanced deeper into the southern city of Rafah, as witnessed by an observer.
Mohammed Tafesh, a witness, recalled that some individuals had come to collect coupons, while others sought shelter in the area. Meanwhile, some people had arrived to fetch water and suddenly heard a loud noise. Those carrying water hurriedly fled, causing the water to spill.
After the strike, a small building lay in ruins, with figures shrouded in blankets placed carefully along the roadside, waiting to be taken out. A photographer from Reuters bore witness to the scene.
In the aftermath, Tafesh identified the deceased individuals who were discovered beneath the rubble. One of them was known for selling pastries, while the other was recognized for selling cold drinks at the location. Additionally, individuals who had received coupons were also pulled from beneath the debris. The injured were rescued and are in good condition, while four or five were martyred.
Witnesses reported that Israeli tanks advanced into the outskirts of the Mawasi refugee camp in northwest Rafah amid intense clashes with Hamas militants. This marked part of a larger military operation targeting western and northern Rafah, resulting in the destruction of numerous homes in recent days.
The escalating conflict and persistent resistance in the Mawasi area have forced the residents to abandon their homes and seek refuge in Khan Younis. These displaced individuals are grappling with the harrowing reality of repeatedly fleeing from their makeshift shelters due to relentless bombardment attacks. This vicious cycle of displacement and insecurity has left them in a state of constant fear and uncertainty, adding to the tremendous hardship they are already enduring.
UNRWA
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has reported that 190 buildings have been hit by Israeli military operations. Tragically, the conflict has resulted in the loss of 193 UNRWA team members.
Israeli Take
Netanyahu declared on Sunday that the ongoing intense conflict with Hamas would come to a swift conclusion if the Islamic group were to release the hostages. He stated that once this happens, the military forces will shift their focus to the northern front. Netanyahu made these remarks in an interview with Channel 14.
Israel is steadfast in its practice of bombing buildings, believing them to be Hamas shelters, while inadvertently causing the deaths of innocent civilians. This offensive will not cease until the captives are released.
