At D23 2024, Disney offered a glimpse into its future entertainment slate, displaying an impressive line-up of their upcoming movies and television shows at spanning across all of its brands and studios, from Pixar to Star Wars and across the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Disney has revealed that many of their popular animated movies will be having their own sequels. Disney Studios recently announced the new movie of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the sequel to the upcoming Avatar movie.
FROZEN 3
Disney Animation has big plans, with Jennifer Lee from announcing a fourth installment in the Frozen franchise now in development. Following the massive success of Frozen and Frozen II, the third film is slated to release in theatres in 2027. Frozen has been Disney’s biggest franchise, debuting in 2013, it starred Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel as Anna and Elsa respectively. The film grossed $1.28 billion, and Frozen II (2019) raked in $1.45 billion.
ZOOTOPIA
Apart from this, Disney also went on to reveal that a sequel to Zootopia is in the works. Fans will be thrilled to know that all of the previous cast are returning and aside from it, Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, who won for Everything Everywhere All at Once, has joined the cast as Gary, a vicious viper.
THE INCREDIBLES
The Incredibles 3 is officially one more movie added to Pixar’s roster. The third movie in the series is reportedly being developed by Brad Bird, who also wrote and directed the first two.
New information regarding Toy Story 5, which he will also be directing, was revealed by Andrew Stanton, who co-wrote all four of the Toy Story movies. He said that the toys will compete with gadgets like iPads and iPhones. The movie is expected to be out in 2026.
INSIDE OUT SPIN OFF SERIES
After the massive success of the film at the box office, Disney is also planning to make a spin off Inside Out series of the movies. The new series will be coming out in the spring of 2025 on Disney+ and takes place between the first and second Inside Out movies, Pete Docter the Chief Creative Officer at Pixar Animation Studios, described the spinoff series as an “in-betweenquel.” He also went on to say that they wanted to create something “unique and bold,” different from anything they had done before as this is their first original series.
MOANA
Finally, Moana 2 stars AuliŻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson as Moana and the resolute shape-shifting demigod Maui is set to have a sequel. The two entertained the audience with a song from the future film. Directed by David Derrick Jr.’s, the movie’s trailer was also shown to the audience.
