Multinational technology companies (MNC) like Amazon, Infosys and Wipro recall their work from office policies for their employees. However, the employees are allowed 2 days of remote work per week, no satisfactory responses have been received from them.
Amazon’s take on this
According to the reports Mr. Andy Jassy, chief executive of Amazon, points out that the policy will be implemented from January 2,2025 onwards, in the message to staff. Mr. Jassy adds that resuming the work from office culture would create a positive impact on the connections among the colleagues as well as with clients. The idea of team bondings and teaching & learning together is impeccable for the process of developing, innovating and formulating.
With regards to the associates, Mr. Jazzy came up with a “bureaucracy mailbox” in which the employees can mail about any irrelevant rules in the firm. He concluded by saying that the rules would assist the members to better be indulged in the collaboration and formulation practices.
What’s the take of Wipro on Work from office?
On the other hand, Wipro, which offers a high employment opportunity to the Indian workforce, shared the notice to the employees via email on 2nd September,2024 which edicts for a mandated work from office or else the workers be marked absent for the day. The directives clearly mentioned that these regulations are imposed precisely on some projects and do not include all the workers, as reported by Mint. The Human Resource Department of Wipro is directed to instantly cancel the leave approvals to the workers, Thus strict enforcement of work from office is carried forward by the company.
Worrying Issues for the firms
Although the concept of remote work is acceptable to all the workers worldwide, but majority of the chief executives of high tech companies critics the notion of flexible workplace, as there can be many concerns accumulate such as –
- Unhealthy lifestyle opted by the workers owing to health issues like obesity, exhaustion, feeling of being pressured.
- Inappropriate time management while at home and simultaneously handling the work.
- Decline in the idea of being a corporate professional as the home becomes the place of work.
- Communication and team spirit among the staff diminishes due to lack of physical meetings in the office.
- Apart from being available for the family at home and an employee for the firm, one’s mental health becomes prone to illness.
- No such team bonding sessions and games for developing an understanding between the staff becomes possible.
And there are more points that can be in the spotlight of the adverse effects of remote work. Still there have been protests and disputes by the employees of Amazon, which later on were terminated by the company.

If we conclude the actions taken by the employers and reactions of the employees, it looks like each of them are counter attacking each other as both dictate the pros of their theory. While the workers are setting themselves with the thought of working from office after a setback from Covid-19, wherein working from anywhere was acceptable. Corporate world is facing a lack of professionalism and punctuality and when the Covid-19 working guidelines are being disowned by the firms, there is a sense of tension surfacing on the workforce to move out from their working in the comfort zone. Companies should come up with a solution for breaking habitual remote working practices of their staff.
But let’s be honest, the pandemic has created chaos in each aspect, be it business,education,economical, spiritual or social. Now it’s time for both the employers and the employees to re engage in the hustle of working towards growth of human development.
