Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India’s intention to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, while addressing the Indian Diaspora at the Nassau Coliseum in New York on Sunday. PM Modi assured that people will experience the Summer Olympics happening in India for which all efforts are being put into action to lead the global sporting event to India.
“Only a few days ago, the Paris Olympics concluded. Very soon, you will witness the Olympics in India too. We are putting in all possible efforts to host the 2036 Olympics,” said Modi. PM Modi spoke to the para-athletes in Delhi after their success at the Para Asian Games in Hangzhou, he mentioned that the government’s approach to be ‘athlete-centric’, recognizing the nation’s rise as a “sporting society.” He highlighted India’s progress into a global sporting force, as shown by the achievements of its athletes on a global platform.
The Prime Minister addressed India’s growing influence across various sectors, saying, “India is a big center of attention today, be it sports, business, environment, or entertainment.” He mentioned the Indian Premier League (IPL) as one of the top-most leagues of the world, emphasising the country’s role in international sports. “Be it be sports, business, or entertainment. PM Modi arrived in New York for the second segment of his three-day trip to the United States. On Saturday, he participated in the Quad Summit and engaged in bilateral meetings with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. PM Modi and President Joe Biden reviewed and outline new pathways to further deepening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
Along with his Olympics-related announcements, Modi is set to discuss with American business leaders. He would further address the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly. This visit is significant as India continues to make strategic global partnerships.
