10 suspected Kuki insurgents were killed in a gunfight in Manipur’s Jiribam; curfew imposed
Jiribam, Manipur: In a sudden change of events, a furious shooting broke out in Jiribam, Manipur, killing 10 suspected Kuki terrorists. The fight erupted late Wednesday night, escalating regional tensions and causing local officials to enforce a stringent curfew to ensure law and order. The confrontation began when security personnel conducted an operation in response to reports of insurgent activity in the region. Eyewitnesses claimed heavy gunshots that lasted several hours and sparked panic among locals. As the violence escalated, many people evacuated their houses in search of safety in shelters located outside the combat zone.
Local police verified the casualties among suspected rebels but did not report any injuries or deaths among security officers. “We are currently assessing the situation and gathering more information,” a police official stated. “Our main priority is to ensure the community’s safety while addressing the threat posed by these militant groups.” Because of the rising violence, the Jiribam district government imposed a curfew that took effect immediately, restricting mobility across town. Residents have been encouraged to stay indoors, and critical services are monitored closely to avoid interruptions. The Kuki insurgency, which has caused violence in Manipur, has prompted worries about the northeastern state’s security and stability.
