The 72nd Plenary Session of the North East Council was attended by the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, along with Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan, the Minister of Community and Rural Development of Meghalaya, Chief Ministers and Governors of Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and other dignitaries.
While addressing the important gathering, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah reflected upon the heartening contribution of the government of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in changing the infrastructural, economical, and social landscape with great vision and sensitivity. He added that a decade ago the North East States were witnessing conflict, discrimination, and alienation due to the deep cultural diversity of 200 tribal groups and more than 195 dialects. The same characteristic has become the strength and matter of pride for the North East today, and the North East has become one of the 36 biodiversity hotspots in the world.
Unstoppable development will give power to the roots of North East
The Home Minister said that the goal of the Prime Minister’s government is to accelerate developmental projects like the northeast has never seen before and to bring it to par with the rest of the nation. Shri Amit Shah emphasized the need for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), and states must make efforts to improve the investment ecosystem and make Shri Narendra Modi’s far-sighted vision for the prosperity of the North East a reality. With the success of the Bangladesh Enclaves Exchange, North East will be connected with the rest of the world very soon. The PM-DevINE scheme, which was earlier for ₹ 6600 Cr., is soon going to be increased to ₹9000 Cr. for more than 111 projects in roads, power, education, healthcare services, sports infrastructure, and tourism. Also, infrastructural plans are being implemented worth ₹81,000 crore for rail connectivity and ₹41,000 crore for road connectivity, along with the launch of 64 new air routes.
The Prime Minister has bridged the gap for prosperity in the Northeast
The Bharatiya Janata Party, through the intelligible guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is taking great care to preserve and to nurture the rich cultural heritage of the North East that had been left ignored earlier with the propaganda behind discrimination between languages, speech, and dialect early on. The government of the Northeastern States has actively advocated for the cause of primary education to be imparted in the local languages of the region. He also added that the Central Government has left no stone unturned for India to become a 5 trillion dollar economy through the development and progress of the Northeast and its people. He also urged all the governors, chief ministers, and chief secretaries present at the meeting to join the National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL) established by the Government of India so that the organic produce made by the hard work of the farmers can easily reach the market.
