A Heart Stopped, and Music Paused: Haniya Aslam of Coke Studio Fame Passes Away

On Sunday August 11 the famous zeb haniya band and coke studio Fame Haniya Aslam died due to cardiac arrest. Zeb Bangash, cousin of Aslam, confirmed the news of her death.

Haniya Aslam, a famous Pakistani musician and the one half of zeb-Haniya band, passed away due to a sudden cardiac arrest on Sunday. Former band member and cousin of Haniya Aslam zebunnisa Bangash was the 1st to confirm the news of Aslam’s death. Zeb shared a series of pictures of Aslam with Hanini caption confirming the death of Haniya Aslam. The sudden death of Haniya left the whole Pakistani music industry mourn.

Haniya Aslam is one of the most admired Pakistani musicians who made her debut career in 2007 with the zeb-Haniya band in collaboration with the Bangash. Both Haniya and zeb worked together until Haniya moved to Canada for her further studies in 2014. Until then both of them left no crumbs in the music industry with their several hit songs.

Haniya Aslam’s works can also be seen in the compositions for several songs of Coke Studio pakistan. Some of her works include ‘Tann Dolay’, ‘Dosti’, ‘Dil Pagla’, ‘Ahaan’ and ‘Seh Na Sakay’ to name a few. Her Coke Studio hits include ‘Laili Jaan’, ‘Bibi Sanam’, ‘Paimona’, and ‘Chup’.

Indian lyricist and playback singer Swanand Kirkire took to Instagram to mourn the passing of Haniya Aslam, with whom he shared a close bond. Kirkire posted a screenshot of their final WhatsApp conversation, reflecting on their collaboration during the second season of The Dewarists.

He wrote, “My dearest Haniya Aslam is no more. She suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away peacefully last night. We shared a special connection while working together on The Dewarists 2. I’m sharing our last conversation, which took place just a few days ago. We were working on an unfinished album together. My heartfelt condolences to @zebbangash and her family. May God give you the strength to cope with this profound loss. Haniya, we’ll see you on the other side. Until then, your sweet voice and melodious guitar riffs will remain with us, a poignant reminder of the void your absence has left.”

The news of Haniya’s passing has left many in shock, with one user commenting, “What!? This is a shock,” while another said, “I am so, so sorry to hear this,” and “Stunned and saddened beyond belief.”

Indian musical artist Anirudh Varma expressed his condolences, writing, “I’m so sorry to hear about this. May her soul rest in peace. Her music will be celebrated forever.”The Indo-Pakistani duo, Rup Magon and Qurram Hussain of JoSH the Band, shared a tribute on their social media, stating, “Today, our music fraternity lost an incredible artist and soul. You will never be forgotten, Haniya. Rest in peace.”

Pakistani cricketer Syeda Nain Fatima Abidi also paid her respects, quoting a verse, “With the same hope in my heart, I live on, dreaming that we will walk together hand in hand. Rest in peace.”Swanand Kirkire later reiterated his grief on X, posting, “My dear friend Haniya Aslam, from Zeb and Haniya, has left us. She suffered a cardiac arrest. Rest in peace, dear Haniya.”

Haniya Aslam’s unexpected passing has left an emptiness that’s hard to put into words. Her melodies will continue to echo in the memories of fans and friends, a lasting reminder of her talent and warmth. Her spirit will live on through the songs she left behind.
