Ishana Night Shyamalan is well aware of the substantial legacy that comes with her last name. Her father, M. Night Shyamalan, has carved out a significant niche in the film industry, particularly known for his twist endings and unique approach to storytelling. Ishana, however, is undeterred by the expectations. 

In an interview with The New York Times back in 2021, she shared, “There are certain expectations the last name brings. But I love that because it’s something for me to knock down. Hopefully, I put my own artistic stamp on what I create.”

A New Vision in Horror and Fantasy

“The Watchers”, set to release next week, is a testament to Ishana’s desire to leave her mark in a field that has been both appreciative of and evasive to her own father. Adapted from A.M. Shine’s gothic horror novel, the film follows Mina, an artist portrayed by Dakota Fanning, who finds herself trapped in an isolated house in the Irish woods with three strangers. She told the Hollywood Reporter, “As a reader, I just felt completely compelled and enamoured by the story. My brain already was starting to think about what visuals I wanted to play with and what character work I wanted to play with.”

He recognised her potential early on and encouraged her to take a semester off from school to work with him on the series “Servant.” This hands-on experience proved invaluable, helping Ishana to hone her skills and prepare for her directorial debut.
