An earthquake of 5.9 Magnitude hit the Ishikawa prefecture on Monday morning
Japan’s Meteorological Agency reported that an earthquake hit again after 5 months. The powerful tremblor of Jan 1st caused widespread damage in the country. The Japanese seismic intensity scale suggests the current earthquake be upper 5 on the scale after another quake of 4.8 magnitudes in nearby areas. There were minutes of interval between both.
Cities affected
In the early morning around 6:30 am, The world’s number four economy welcomed the sun with a trembling core with a magnitude of approximately 5.9 and an occurring depth of around 10 Kilometers. The quake shook the cities of Wajima and Suzu situated near the Northern tip of the Noto Peninsula.
A magnitude of 4 was felt in the Niigata prefecture in Kashiwazaki and Kariwaki village. There were signs of abnormalities at the nuclear power plant situated there according to Tokyo Electric Power. At the same time, the bullet train services at Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen were on a halt temporarily according to the East Japan Co.
The quake was felt in Niigata, Fukushima, and Toyama prefecture while the early warning alerts on smartphones as far as the region of Kanto.
The quakes on Monday morning were said to be the aftershocks of New Year’s disastrous Tremor. The seismic activity has subsided however people are still advised to be cautious by tsunami official Satoshi Harada from JMA seismology.
The trembling New Year of Japan
At the start of the year, Japan faced a disastrous earthquake killing 241 people, and many buildings were toppled and destroyed. According to a survey, the damage led to the closure of more than 100 businesses in Ishikawa prefecture. The intensity recorded on the Shindo scale (Japanese Seismic scale) was approximately 7.9 magnitudes.
The New Year’s Earthquake occurred in the same area roughly which caused the tarnishing of structures and several deaths also caused the dangers of Tsunamis on the coasts of the country while people were celebrating New Year. The Earthquake of 1st Jan is considered to be one of the catastrophes of this year causing damages that the country has not been able to recover from yet.
The aftereffects of Monday tremor
The recent Earthquake reignited fear among netizens about the damage caused by the New Year’s catastrophe of 2024 back in Jan, People were coming out of their houses, and temporary shelters (people who lost their homes in the New Year’s quake) to see if there has been any additional damage by the new occurred quake- Showcased by NHK public television.
The buildings that collapsed by the earthquake earlier this year have remained untouched as reconstruction in the mountain area has been comparatively slow, hence people staying in temporary shelters are seemingly more vulnerable to the quake.
There was no danger of a Tsunami detected for now, said the agency; however, few minor damages have been noted. Two damaged houses from the earthquake of January 1st have collapsed, now getting hit by the latest one, in the city of Wajima reported by the fire and disaster management agency.
