Following the release of the original 2018 movie and 2020 sequel starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, the new film titled A Quiet Place: Day One will feature a brand-new set of characters.
As the title suggests, the prequel takes place on the very first day, when extraterrestrial creatures with an acute sense of hearing invaded Earth and unleashed absolute wreckage in New York City.
Plans for the upcoming film were first announced in November 2020, and more details have been updated since, including the star-studded cast.
A Quiet Place Day One: how it all began
Director-actor John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place produced a tremendous response from the audience upon its inception in 2018. However, even after the release of its sequel in 2020, movie enthusiasts were left with one burning question — the origin of the blind, alien creatures in a post-apocalyptic world. Now to answer that question, the creators have come up with the film’s prequel titled A Quiet Place: Day One.
The trailer of the franchise’s upcoming third installment was unveiled yesterday and is currently trending #2 worldwide on YouTube. The prequel spin-off to the horror series revolves around a new set of characters, portrayed by Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff, while A Quiet Place Part II actor, Djimon Hounsou reprises his mysterious character, referred to as “Man on Island.”
The movie’s first poster features Nyong’o, playing the role of a character called Sam, described by EW as “a woman who’s come to New York City on a trip when the monsters arrive” and coincidentally meets with Quinn’s character, Eric as they reluctantly decide to explore and survive the city together.
The gloomy trailer begins with a few shots from the first film where the Abbott family struggles to survive against the alien invasion. It has been over 400 days since the predators took over the suburban town where they live. The family uses sign language to communicate for fear that the aliens would hear them. But in a sudden change of scenes, the audience is taken to Day 1 of the attack, when the sky bursts into an explosion of fireballs that destroys everything. In the hazy cloud of smoke, the female protagonist, Sam, comes across strange creatures attacking the people and killing everyone mercilessly, emphasizing the beginning of a tumultuous dystopian future.
As this is supposed to be a prequel set way before humanity has learned how to fight back against the aliens, A Quiet Place: Day One appears to feel like a more straightforward sci-fi horror than its slow-paced mystery thriller predecessors. The trailer’s shot of the Brooklyn Bridge getting destroyed makes it seem like Sam and her allies might not make it out alive.
A Quiet Place movie series has never failed to deliver good stories. Hence, the expectations from the prequel are the same. When it comes to the star cast and performances, the actors have been remarkable throughout. The third film features Lupita Nyong’o as the central protagonist. Lupita is one of the most talented Hollywood actresses out there, who has impressed us in the past with outstanding performances in Us, Black Panther, and 12 Years a Slave. Meanwhile, Joseph Quinn has been a fan-favourite in Stranger Things.
With two concrete films under its belt, Paramount’s A Quiet Place movies have really come into their own shape as a franchise. The new trailer for director Michael Sarnoski’s prequel looks promising, giving viewers a terrifying teaser of how it all began to discover why the world turned quiet. Fans are thrilled to see how the prequel takes the audience back where it all began to the day the death angels first fell on Earth. The movie is set to hit the big screens on June 28th, 2024.
