On Wednesday, Atishi, a member of the Delhi Cabinet, sent a letter to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini concerning the decrease in Yamuna’s water flow from Haryana to Delhi. She accused the BJP-led Haryana government of intentionally lowering the water level in Delhi, alleging that this tactic was aimed at causing anxiety among the residents ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on May 25.
She also mentioned in the letter that if the neighboring state failed to address the issue, the AAP government would take the matter to the Supreme Court for resolution.
She noted that for the first time in Delhi’s history, the Yamuna’s water level has fallen below 671 feet. Typically, it hovers around 674 feet in Wazirabad, and even during declines, it rarely drops below 672 feet. However, from May 11 to May 21, there’s been a consistent decrease. It seems to be deliberate, occurring precisely five to seven days before the elections.
Accusing the BJP of deliberately withholding water from Delhi as part of what she called an “ongoing conspiracy,” Atishi reassured residents that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is stepping up tanker deliveries and extending the hours of operation for water wells to mitigate the situation.
Encouraging everyone to remain vigilant, she emphasized that this is all part of the BJP’s scheme, she said that the delhi citizens should expect more of these tactics every day until May 25 in Delhi. She told the citizens to stay vigilant and not to be swayed by the opposition’s plans, they’re apprehensive about the potential victory of the INDIA bloc, which is why they’re resorting to these actions.
In response to Atishi’s accusations, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini argued that the AAP is trying to distract people because they lack substantive issues to address. He accused them of spreading falsehoods and engaging in corrupt practices.
Saini informed reporters in Karnal that the water supply to Delhi is ongoing according to the agreement, and no one has the authority to halt it.
He also expressed assurance that the BJP would secure victory in all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, along with the Karnal assembly bypoll, which he is personally contesting. Criticizing the Congress, Saini claimed that the party merely made promises without taking substantial action.
Saini remarked that due to this, people have lost trust in them, mentioning that the Congress is weakening, and it’s uncertain when it might collapse.
The Delhi Lok Sabha phase is set for March 25th, making it the sixth phase in the series. The final phase is scheduled for June 1st, with votes being counted and results declared on June 4th.
