Heeramandi:

The drama depicts the lives of tawaifs in Lahore’s red-light district, Heera Mandi, during the Indian independence movement against British rule. This historical drama stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi R. Hydari, Richa Chadda, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Sehgal.

Sanjay Leela Bansali created and directed the series. He produced blockbusters in the Bollywood industry, including Bajirao Mastani, Devdas, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and others.

Over 200 crores were spent on the production of the series. But during the course of its five-day opening weekend, it only garnered 33 million viewing hours and 4.5 million views globally. It has one of the lowest viewerships among Netflix original shows in India.

For a serious movie whose trailer garnered over 13 million views in a single day, it is highly surprising. The Netflix series has received below-average critical and audience reception, despite its debut ranking second globally in the non-English category. It will therefore be difficult for the show to get better in the coming weeks.

Sharmin Sergal as Alamzeb :

While the success of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix original drama is debatable, the main actors continue to gain popularity on social media due to their outstanding performances.

However, Sharmin Segal, who played Alamzeb, is receiving mixed reviews. Some audience members have made the observation that their experience stayed the same during the entire movie.

Some, however, claim that she did well for her debut film. Some viewers felt that she did a good job portraying the shy and introverted character of Alamzeb.
