Air India Pilots & Cabin Crew to Fly in Style with Manish Malhotra Uniform Designs

Air India will introduce new uniforms designed by Manish Malhotra in a phased manner for its Pilots and Cabin Crew. The ensemble will also include specially designed footwear.

On Tuesday, the private carrier Air India unveiled its new uniform for pilots and cabin crew, designed by the famous Indian designer Manish Malhotra. As per the statement released by the airline, it will be introducing the new uniforms for the flying crew in a phased manner over the next few months as part of a planned process rather than an immediate change. 

Air India crew will begin wearing the new uniforms with the operational launch of its first Airbus A350 Aircraft. The airline stated that it collaborated closely with the cockpit and cabin crew team to create and finalize the latest designer uniforms. The designs were tested to ensure that the new uniforms met both the practical and aesthetic needs of those who would be wearing them.

The CEO and Managing Director of Air India, Campbell Wilson, shared his excitement about the new uniforms for pilots and cabin crew, highlighting the rich and significant history of the airline’s crew uniforms in the world of aviation.

According to his statement, the collaboration with the famous designer Manish Malhotra aimed to bring an innovative ensemble, ensuring that new crew uniforms possess a stylish, unique, forward-thinking touch that captures the essence of Air India’s new identity. The uniforms feature 3 essential Indian colors: red, aubergine, and gold.

Air India cockpit crew’s new designer uniform features a classic double-breasted suit with a print inspired by Vista, reflecting the professionalism and timeless style associated with the flying profession, signifying authority and sophistication. 

For the female cabin crew, the uniform consists of a ready-to-wear ombre saree adorned with intricate patterns inspired by Indian heritage architecture (jharokha), and the Vista (the new logo icon of Air India). The ensemble is completed with a comfortable blouse and blazar.

The designer has also designed comfortable footwear with a style statement as mentioned in the airline’s released statement. The female cabin crew will be seen in dual-tone black and burgundy block heels, and the male cabin crew is set to wear black Brogues.

Manish Malhotra’s elegant touch and thoughtful fusion of cultural elements in the newly designed Air India crew uniforms highlight the airline’s effort to redefine and push the narrative of its exciting future.
