She continued, “Being Miss World 1994 has been an incredible experience.” Even though none of us have ever met and we are all from different countries, after just one month of dating, I already know that this will seem really strange to me in the future. Our relationship has genuinely grown into the best. But I am not sure when we will actually cross paths again.”
When Rai was a college student, she did some modelling. Before she entered the Miss India pageant, she finished second in a few TV commercials. She received offers to be the lead in movies after winning Miss World in 1994. She starred in two movies in 1997: Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Iruvar and the Hindi film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. The 1998 Tamil romantic drama Jeans, the most expensive Indian film at the time, was her first major commercial hit. For her performances in the romantic dramas Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Devdas (2002) directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, she was bestowed with additional accolades, including two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.
