Ajay Devgn’s starrer Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha has opened to dreary box office numbers in India. The Neeraj Pandey directorial, earned only Rs, 2 crore on its first day as per the early estimates by industry tracker Sacnik. This comes as a huge disappointment to the the star power cast of Ajay Devgn and Tabu who have managed to deliver hits at the box office this year.

Comparative performance with Devgn’s and Tabu’s previous releases

The film collection is outstandingly lower than Devgan’s past releases of the other movies this year, Maidaan ( 7.25 crore ) and Shaitaan ( 15.21 crore ). Even Tabu’s last release crew was a big hit making 43.75 crores in its first week and crossing over 75.16 crores in its fourth week, according to Time Of India, marked by a huge success. The disastrous performance of Auron Mein Kahan  Dum Tha is even more conspicuous when it is compared to Devgan’s weakest opener “ All the Best “ in 2009 which earned as low as  Rs 1.82 crore on the first day. It has also taken the place of one of the biggest flops on the box office when compared to Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira which earned Rs 2.50 crore on its first day.

Impact of release date delay and competition

The romance drama under the direction of Neeraj Pandey failed to attract the audience despite delaying its release date which was previously planned with Kalki 2898 AD. Unfortunately, the delay did not ameliorate the negative response from the audience. The prospects of the film bouncing back weekend appear bleak due to the initial reception and competition that it faced from Janvi Kapoor’s “Ulajh” which performed even worse at the box office.

Hollywood’s success versus Bollywood’s flops

Interestingly, the release of Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and Ulajh had no impact on the international releases ‘“Deadpool And Wolverine which continued to earn more than 4 crore rupees on its second Friday which is more than the cumulative first-day earnings of both Bollywood’s releases, sighting stiff competition.

Show numbers and Occupancy rate

Despite its poor earnings, the film had many shows in various cities. As per The Indian Express reports, in Delhi NCR the film had 667 shows with an occupancy rate of approximately 8.25 percent while in Mumbai it had 559 shows with an occupancy rate of 11 percent. The overall occupancy rate stands at 9.16 percent on the first day.

The film’s cast in addition to Ajay Devgan and Tabu includes Shantanu Maheshwari, Jimmy Shergill, Jay Upadhyaya, and Sayaji Shinde.
