On Saturday, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar defended the Shinde-Fadnavis government’s choice to hire employees on a contractual basis, following the statement made by deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra the previous day that the state government does not want “to own up to the sin of contract recruitment,” which was instituted during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Allegations on Ajit pawar and NCP
During and interaction with reporters in Pune on Sunday, Ajit Pawar stated that the decision for contractual appointments was deemed appropriate. However, an attempt was made by the Opposition to spread misunderstanding among the youths that they would lose their jobs and that jobs would not be obtained by them. As a result of this, the government resolution to recruit staff on a contractual basis had to be cancelled.
The opposition parties had claimed that the government of Eknath Shinde had chosen to use empanelled agencies to hire workers on a contract basis. Mr. Fadnavis asserted that Uddhav Thackeray’s previous government made the decision, nevertheless. Afterwards, he declared that the directive, which was signed by Uddhav Thackeray, has been annulled.
Statements, Allegations and Controversies
Speaking to reporters, it was stated by Mr. Pawar that the GR was correct, but false propaganda was intentionally disseminated by the opposition regarding it. A misunderstanding was generated among the youth concerning this recruitment process. Many things were talked about in relation to this GR, such as jobs not being obtained and jobs being lost, which were deemed incorrect.
Mr. Pawar continued, “One and a half lakh youth were scheduled to get the opportunity. The Shinde government decided to withdraw the GR, and they blamed the opposition for it. I’ve collaborated with numerous ministries. However, such a massive recruitment effort was not undertaken. We decided to cancel the contractual recruitments at the cabinet meeting since miscommunications are being disseminated among the youth.”
Accusing the Congress, the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP, and the Shiv Sena (UBT) of attempting to incite youth unrest and spread chaos throughout the state, Mr. Fadnavis claimed that the Maha Vikas Aghadi government had finished the entire process of appointing people on a contract basis.
Mr. Fadnavis claims that the Congress-NCP government, which had Sushil Kumar Shinde as chief minister, made the initial decision to conduct contract recruitments in 2003. Subsequent governments led by Ashok Chavan and Prithviraj Chavan also conducted contract recruitments. He further emphasised that Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar supported the issuance of the new GR, which the opposition is contesting.
Political turnout
On Friday, at a press conference in Mumbai, the government’s decision to cancel the government resolution on contractual recruitment was announced by Fadnavis. He remarked that the concept and process of contractual recruitment, including empanelment of nine agencies along with the tender process, had been introduced during the leadership of the then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. He questioned why their sin should be attributed to his administration, and why their decision should be ascribed to them, thereby inviting criticism.
According to Ajit Pawar, the current administration intends to hire 1.5 lakh people, marking the biggest government hiring spree ever. He added that the resolution was introduced under Devendra Fadnavis’ administration. On the other hand, the opposition has called for a thorough investigation into the matter. The Pune chapter of the Aam Aadmi Party handed out candy to commemorate the government’s decision to revoke the resolution.
