Akash Anand named the new successor of BSP by the party chief Mayawati

The role of national coordinator and her “political successor” would be vacant, Mayawati stated earlier in May, “until he attained full maturity.”

BSP chief Mayawati appointed her nephew Akash Anand as her successor and national coordinator, a party leader reported.

“Mayawati, the BSP chief, has designated her nephew Akash Anand to be her replacement.” Lal Ji Medhankar told ANI that Akash Anand will be in charge as the national coordinator.

Day after day, the decision was made regarding the recent Lok Sabha elections defeat.

Mayawati had declared earlier in the month of May that her nephew would not be serving as her “political successor” or national coordinator “until he attained full maturity.”

In order to analyze the party’s loss in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Mayawati called a meeting on Sunday. The important meeting was attended by all district-level authorities, senior party leaders, and state workers.

According to a news statement from the party, this was the first significant national-level gathering following the country’s recent general elections to the 18th Lok Sabha.

After being sacked, Akash ended his campaign in the middle of the Lok Sabha elections, becoming Mayawati the party’s only spokesperson.

Feedback from the party’s candidates, all of whom were declared the losers in the polls, indicated that had Akash Anand persisted in his campaign, Jatav Dalits and a segment of Muslims—who are perceived as the BSP’s main voter base—would not have supported the Samajwadi Party (SP)-Congress alliance.

Since 2019, Akash Anand’s authority inside the party as national coordinator has been restricted. He was forced to watch from the sidelines and had no influence over who received a ticket for the legislative elections.

A BSP representative stated that the party needs a youthful leader who can tour the entire state, conduct district-by-district meetings, and get input straight from the people since the Assembly elections are scheduled for 2027.

A list of 13 well-known candidates for the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly by-elections was made public by the BSP earlier on Saturday. Mayawati, the head of the party, and her nephew Akash Anand are included.
