What is ADHD?

ADHD is a disorder that significantly affects a person’s life. Its most common signs of ADHD include severe hyperactivity and impulsivity, which could disrupt routine activities and control overall development.

The noticeable symptoms of ADHD typically show in childhood. They are usually identified in school-aged children, especially when they lead to classroom disruptions or difficulties with schoolwork. ADHD profoundly impacts social interactions, academic performance, and professional success.

It’s crucial to understand that while ADHD is often associated with children and teenagers, many adults also face the challenges it presents.

Various studies suggest that ADHD is diagnosed more frequently in boys, but this does not necessarily mean that boys are more likely to have ADHD.

Boys often display high levels of energy, restlessness, and impulsive behavior, while girls are more prone to demonstrating difficulty with sustained attention and staying focused.

There are three primary types of ADHD:

  1. Predominantly inattentive presentation
  2. Predominantly hyperactive/impulsive presentation
  3. Combined presentation

  5. Forgetfulness: Frequently forgetting daily tasks or misplacing items.

Causes of ADHD

ADHD causes are still unclear. Genetics and environment may both contribute, but the exact mix is unknown including some factors like:

  2. Genetics play a role but aren’t the sole cause.
  3. Environmental factors also contribute.
  4. No single gene or factor is responsible.
