History has been made at the cannes as an Indian film wins the prestigious Grand Prix Prize at the 77th Cannes Film Festival at Cannes, Southern France, becoming the first Indian film to have received such an honorary Award in 30 years.

Payal Kapadia an Alumni of FTII, Pune penned down and directed this beautiful cinematic masterpiece of two Malayali nurses go on a roadtrip where the mystical forest becomes a space for their dreams to manifest. The Film became a strong contendor for the prix after it received an eight minute standing ovation after its screening from International Critics.

Payal received the award from a well known actor Viola Davis. In her speech she thanked the leading ladies of the film; actors Kani Kusurti, Chhaya Kadam and Divya Prabha. She said, “ I hope we don’t have to wait for another 30 years to get an Award”. Her dedication towards filmmaking is pretty evident from her movie as it captures the essence of three characters beautifully and showing the importance of Friendship with a pinch of Women Empowerment supported by stellar performances of the three actors.

With the Innauguration of ‘Bharat Pavilion’ at the Cannes by NDFC, the diverse and beautiful landscape of Indian Cinema shown beautifully through amazing films like this will get a global recognition, said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and we don’t have to wait for another 30 years to receive an Award.

Many States like Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra and Karnataka represented India at Cannes Film Market this year and pitched their exquisite ideas to the International Producers and Production houses.
