Amazon had been expanding its presence in the healthcare sector, primarily through its various initiatives such as Amazon Pharmacy and its partnership with Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase on a healthcare venture called Haven.

Following a tough year  for Amazon which is one of the biggest private employers in this nation, Amazon Health Services had given a statement, Amazon will be letting go of “a couple hundreds” of employees from Amazon Pharmacy and its One Medical organization.

Another round of cutbacks impacting workers at Amazon Health Services was disclosed by the company earlier in the week. On Tuesday, Amazon the internet giant announced that it has planned to lay off hundreds of salaried employees in its medical segment, which includes firms like Amazon Pharmacy and One Medical. In an attempt to maximize the value of its assets, the corporation is currently reforming and decreasing costs, which includes several reductions.

Since the year 2023, Amazon.com has made termination announcements in an effort to manage the consequences of the Covid-19 outbreak. During that period, employment surged as more people shifted their demands to internet-based resources. But the need for such assistance has now declined.

Amazon.com has therefore made over twenty-seven thousand layoffs since the beginning of the previous calendar year. It involves a number of cutbacks that this year were previously disclosed. Based on present trends, the  organisation may still be planning for laying off many more individuals.

Amazon  to issue a statement based on the recent Lay-offs

Neil Lindsay, the executive vice president of the Amazon Healthcare Services, told workers in a message to employees that the greatest number of recent layoffs will impact “a couple of  hundreds jobs” between both of the health-related divisions.

Lindsay reports that Amazon’s health care divisions have experienced “incredible development,” with Amazon Clinic receiving a “96% client approval rate.” In an announcement, Amazon states that it’s going to “keep going to strive for making healthcare easier.”

The ability to submit applications for new positions inside the company as well as “monetary aid, insurance expansion, and professional help” would be provided to those affected by the reductions in force, according to Lindsay.

Despite making the declaration on Tuesday, Amazon started sending out notices of unemployment in the upcoming days. Many affected workers shared their personal experiences of having their jobs terminated after a lifetime of dedicated work on LinkedIn, which is considered to be known as a   type of social media platform , expressing sadness . Interestingly, a sizable percentage of these impacted workers seem to be employees representing One Healthcare, which is an Amazon affiliate.

One Medical and Amazon Pharmacy to be affected by layoffs

One Medical is a “membership-based wellness organisation that provides in-person as well as electronic or online medical treatments via the Internet. Amazon had purchased this  business during  the month of February 2023 for an amount of $3.9 billion in cash.

Amazon is currently reorganising the company structure  since its layoffs of certain employees. One Medical’s previous Senior Director of Strategic Business Partnership, Laura McCaffrey, is another affected personnel because of the lay-offs.

Laura McCaffrey had  disclosed in a message  on her  LinkedIn profile  that she had been terminated from the organisation after being employed there for almost sixteen years in total. Laura entered One Medical as a little business with just a handful of premises, so she was able to see it develop from the bottom level. But with the most recent layoffs, her longtime tenure with the organisation came to a sudden end.

The Amazon Pharmacy is another company that has been affected because of the lay-offs . On November 17, 2020, Amazon had launched its own pharmaceutical division. Medications with prescriptions are available for delivery to your doorstep from the above Amazon website.
