Arrest Story of Amritpal Singh
The ‘Waris Punjab De’ Chief was arrested last year, in April from Moga district in Punjab after a long manhunt and was charged under the National Security Act, as his actions in the past few months were considered as a serious threat to the social peace and security of the concerned region. He was later shifted to Dibrugarh in Assam with his other associates.
Election Results
The Khalistani leader decided to contest in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 as an individual candidate from the Khadoor Sahib constituency in Punjab. Although the WDP chief was not present during campaigns, the required was managed by his father, Tarsem Singh and the party runners. He was up for polls with contestants of Congress and SAD candidates, Kulbir Singh Zira and Virsa Singh Valtoha. Amritpal won big in the elections, with a massive vote count of around 1.93 lakh.
Oath Ceremony in Delhi
As being elected from Punjab’s constituency now, a police team of Punjab escorted him to Parliament in New Delhi for his oath as a MP. Singh was brought under high security arrangements in a ‘military plane’. He will be taken back right after the oath procedure takes place, said the police officials. The district magistrate of Amritsar has ordered some stringent conditions regarding Amritpal’s 4-day parole as well as his meeting with family and associates.
Some of the rules include restriction to remain under the ‘territorial jurisdiction’ of New Delhi. Also, his family is prohibited assertion of any statements in front of any form of media whatsoever. The election has declared winning of an imprisoned candidate, but the efficiency of administration from the contemporary premises is obvious to be questioned.
