A former Indian Administrative Services( IAS) officer and close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Manish Verma joined the Janata Dal United (JDU) party on July 9 in Patna. JDU working chairman Sanjay Jha handed him the party membership in the presence of state unit chairman Umesh Kushwaha. He was posted as the Additional Advisor to the CM.
According to reports, with the upcoming Bihar assembly elections in 2025 he will likely get a crucial post in the party, as discussed during the party’s national meeting held in Patna last week he is likely to be considered a possible successor to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.
Who is Manish Verma?
Manish Verma, aged 50, hails from the Nalanda region of Bihar. His father Dr Ashok Verma has been known as a well known doctor
in Biharsharif. Verma Completed his primary education from a government school in Biharsharif. He also studied in a school in Patna before completing his graduation in Civil Engineering from the IIT Delhi. He also worked with the Indian Oil Corporation before passing the UPSC in 2000.
Manish got his first posting in Kalahandi and then became a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Gunupur, Rayagara in Odisha. He was in Odisha for 12 years before he was transferred on deputation to Bihar.
Verma joined as additional consultant to Bihar chief minister after the post was created by Nitish Kumar on February 2, 2022 in a cabinet meeting. He has also served as a member of the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority. Verma stepped down from all these posts before joining the JDU
Connection with JDU
Verma has been aligned with the JDU for over a year now. He played a significant part during the recent Lok Sabha elections. He visited all the 16 constituencies of JDU whereas the party ultimately won 12 seats and ended up getting a major adherent in the NDA alliance.
