After 11 years of trophy drought, Indian Cricket Team finally won an ICC trophy (T20 WC this year). The success of the whole Indian team is also notable. From Rahul Dravid-Rohit Sharma pair to now have a new pair of Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma in ODI cricket and we have a new pair in T20 cricket. Our new T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who caught a massive catch in the T20 World Cup final and our new coach Gautam Gambhir.
There are lot of challenges for Gautam Gambhir as a new coach. He has a contract with Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) till 2027. The Indian Cricket Team have to face 5 ICC trophies (including all formats) between these years. They had to compete in 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and if they qualify they have to play in the World Test Championship in the same year. They will also play the next T20 World Cup in 2026 in their home. In 2027 they will play the ODI World Cup in South Africa and if they qualify they will have to play the World Test Championship. So a lot of challenges for Gautam Gambhir after taking the responsibility as the Head coach of India.
But the most important thing is India will tour to Australia at the end of this year for a 5 match test series which includes a D/N test. After taking the responsibility as the head coach, this is the huge challenge for Gautam Gambhir. In the 2023, Australia defeat India and they became the champion of World Test Championship in Oval. In the same year in Ahmedabad Australia defeated undefeated India in ODI World Cup and also they became the World Champion.
Though in the previous Border-Gavaskar India defeated Australia by 2-1 but that was in their home soil. In 2019, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli India also defeated them. The tour of 2020-21 was a memorable for team India because they came back from the 36 all out. Though the former World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting, predicts that the outcome would be different this time. According to him, Australia will win the series this time in a comfortable manner.
Ponting said in an ICC review show that “It’s going to be a competitive series and as I said I think Australia’s got a bit of a point against India in Australia on the back of what’s happened in the last two test series. We are back to five tests as well, which is the really important thing about the series. It’s only been four tests in the last couple of times. Five tests are really important but I don’t know if there would be too many draw games.”
The series will be start in Perth from November 22 followed by a Day- Night test in Adelaide where India were bowled out for 36. Boxing day test will be hosted by MSG and the final series test will hosted by SCG which is also the first test of 2025.
