The Karnataka State Women’s Commission has sought a police investigation into the death of a woman who accused former chief minister Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediruppa of sexually abusing her minor daughter. The commission has asked the Bengaluru Police for a report, citing concerns surrounding the woman’s death and subsequent burial of her body. The National Commission for Women  (NCW) has called for the full release of the Justice Hema Committee Report, which has exposed widespread discrimination and sexual harassment of women in the Malayalam Film industry also known as Mollywood. In an official statement issued NCW noted concerning findings in the report highlighting serious issues including workplace harassment, deplorable working conditions, and gender-based discrimination that have adversely affected the women in Mollywood. On Monday, the Kerala police lodged an FIR against filmmaker Ranjith, making the first such action following a series of recent sexual harassment allegations against male actors in the Malayalam film industry, popularly known as Mollywood.
