On October 29, homemade bombs were set off at a Jehovah’s Witnesses three day prayer meeting event in Kalamassery, Kerala, killing three people and injuring over fifty people. A man claiming to be a former member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses has claimed responsibility for the blasts. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a briefing that 17 people were in intensive care with 5 in critical condition. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a resolution calling for immediate humanitarian truce in Israel-Hamas conflict with India abstaining from voting. The 193 members of the UNGA met in the 10th Emergency Special Session on Friday to adopt a “major” resolution on the Gaza crisis. The Gaza resolution was submitted by Jordan and backed by 45 other states including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia, and South Africa. It was voted in favor by 120 countries, voted against by 14, and abstention by 45 members. A Qatar court announced a verdict of death penalty on Thursday for the eight former Indian Navy personnel held on undeclared charges since August 2022. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a press release on October 26, 2023, expressed great shock at the verdict and said that it’s exploring all legal options. “We are deeply shocked by the verdict of death penalty and are awaiting the detailed judgment.
