At least 11 people have lost their lives and over a 100 individuals – including army personnel – have gone missing in the remote Lachen valley North Sikkim; following a glacial overflow, unusually heavy rainfalls and a cloud burst which triggered flash floods in the Teesta river. Several homes and highways have also been destroyed. 24 patients, including 12 newborns died in Dr Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital in Maharashtra’s Nanded on Monday. 7 more patients, 4 of whom were newborns, died on Tuesday morning, pushing the total number of deaths to 31.
