WE ARE FULLY PREPARED “ : Commissioner Rajiv Kumar

“There are forces determined to disrupt the election process, but we are fully prepared, and the Ballot is the answer to these forces,” said Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar after briefing election observers in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. Speaking to ANI, Kumar said, “We informed the election observers today.   General, police and  expenditure  inspectors from several states participated in the conference. Observers were ordered to be available for political parties and candidates to respond to potential complaints and ensure compliance with electoral rules. Kumar stressed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is ready to conduct free and fair elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.

“The whole world is watching the elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Some forces are ready to disrupt the electoral process, but we are ready to face it. During the Lok Sabha elections, we saw great enthusiasm in Jammu and Kashmir , with a record voter turnout,  believes that polls are the answer to everything. The people of J-K will shape their destiny in their own hands by participating in the voting process,” he said.

Kumar also underlined ECI’s readiness to fight against false narratives  in elections of the  assembly.

“We are vigilant and will respond quickly to these false stories. Our officials will closely monitor these issues,” he added.

The elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases:

September 18, September 25 and October 1, covering a total of 90 constituencies of the  Assembly. The previous parliamentary elections in the region were held in 2014.

The Election Commission has also scheduled parliamentary elections in Haryana for October 1, with the results of both regions to be counted on October 4.

The notification for the first phase of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir was  revealed on Monday, marking an important milestone in the 2024 electoral process.

The voting for the first phase, which involves 24 constituencies, is scheduled for September 18. Candidates have until August 27 to send their applications, with consideration on August 28 and the final withdrawal date on August 30.
