Prajwal Revanna’s SIT detention is extended by a Bengaluru court till June 10.

Prajwala Revanna, a suspended leader of the Janata Dal (S), was placed in police custody till June 10 by a Bengaluru court on Thursday in relation to allegations of sexual assault.

Regarding the remand application that the SIT, which is investigating the matter, submitted, the 42nd Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge issued a ruling.

Ashok Naik, the Special Public Prosecutor, requested an additional four days of confinement. In light of this, the court granted the application.

When Prajwal arrived in Bengaluru from Germany on Thursday, May 30, in the early hours of the morning, the SIT had already detained him. He was taken into custody in connection with Holenarasipura Town Police Station Crime No. 107/2024.

The next day, the court had placed him under detention until June 6.

Videos purportedly of Prajwal sexually abusing women went viral before to the Lok Sabha elections on April 26. He had left India after casting his ballot.

According to a letter that the head of the Karnataka State Commission for Women issued to the state government, action was requested. The government then established a special inquiry team, which is supporting the allegations.

Prior to his release on bail, the police had detained his father and Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna on suspicion of kidnapping a woman. The High Court is currently considering a challenge brought by the SIT about the bail order. In the midst of the same kidnapping case, Bhavani Revanna, Prajwal’s mother, is evading capture.

Bengaluru Court:

Bengaluru The Special Investigation Team’s custody over former JD MP Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of rape and sexual abuse against many women, was extended by a local court on Thursday till June 10. On May 31, he was presented before the special court for elected Representatives, which had remanded him to SIT custody until June 6. In the most recent elections, the 33-year-old grandson of JD founder and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda lost his attempt to hold onto the Hassan Lok Sabha seat. The judge acknowledged the necessity for more investigation while granting the detention extension on Thursday. The SIT requested extra time so that it could collect more evidence and conduct a thorough interrogation of the suspects.

Shortly after Revanna’s May 31 arrival from Germany at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, he was taken into custody by SIT personnel. He had left for Germany on April 27, the day after Hassan had gone to the polls. His whereabouts were the subject of a previous ‘Blue Corner Notice’ issued by Interpol in response to a request made by the SIT through the Central Bureau of Investigation. On May 18, a Special Court for Elected Representatives issued an arrest warrant for Revanna in response to a request made by the SIT. On April 28, a complaint in the Hassan district of Holenarasipura was filed against him, leading to his detention. He was charged with harassing a 47-year-old former maid sexually.

He is the second accused on the list; the first accused is his father, H D Revanna, the MLA. Three allegations of sexual assault have been filed against Prajwal Revanna. Additionally, rape allegations are made against him. Pen drives purportedly carrying obscene movies purportedly featuring Prajwal Revanna circulated around Hassan before of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled on April 26. This is how the incidents of sexual abuse came to light.
