Former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa is the subject of an ongoing POCSO investigation by CID, which has sent him a notice requesting that he attend for interrogation.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is looking into the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case against former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, has sent a notice requesting that he appear before it for questioning. If necessary, he may be arrested, according to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, who made this announcement on Thursday.

“Notice has been sent out procedurally; the charge sheet has to be turned in by June 15th. They (CID) will file the charge sheet in advance. They will need to adhere to the protocol for it. He informed reporters here that “they will have to record his statement and produce him (in court). All of these are procedures, and the department will take care of them.”

Parameshwara responded to a query by saying, “If required, they will arrest. CID must state if it is required; I am unable to do so. They will take action if they believe it is essential.” According to those close to the BJP veteran, who is also a member of the party’s parliamentary board, he is now in Delhi and is expected to join the investigation upon his return.

Yediyurappa has been charged with sexual harassment under Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO Act, according to police. The mother of a 17-year-old girl filed the complaint, claiming that on February 2 of this year, during a meeting at his Dollars Colony apartment, her daughter was sexually attacked by him.

Shortly after the Sadashivanagar police filed a complaint on March 14, Karnataka Director General of Police Alok Mohan issued an order immediately moving the case to the CID for additional investigation. Lung cancer claimed the life of the 54-year-old lady who had filed the complaint against Yediyurappa last month at a private hospital in this city.

Yediyurappa, 81, has refuted the accusation and declared he will pursue legal action. Yediyurappa was called into the office by the CID in April, at which point they took a voice sample. Ashok H. Nayak, a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP), has been assigned by the government to represent the CID in this case. Yediyurappa has asked the court to nullify the police report.
