Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by the former Indian National Congress President Rahul Gandhi, is all set to enter Madhya Pradesh after its Uttar Pradesh leg, where it covered the areas of Varanasi (the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency), Prayag Raj (once a stronghold of the Congress Party), Amethi (from where Rahul Gandhi lost the last general election of 2019), Raebareli (the bastions of Congress from where Mrs. Gandhi used to contest Lok Sabha), Lucknow (from where Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh contests elections), Bareilly, and Agra.

Madhya Pradesh lag of Yatra

On the 2nd of March, Yatra will enter the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh from Dholpur, Rajasthan, and will cover the areas of Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Ujjain, Dhar, and Ratlam before returning to Rajasthan. Yatra will cover around 698 km for 4 days in 9 districts of Madhya Pradesh.

The Madhya Pradesh leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will be interesting to watch out for because it will become a lot more likely that this senior Congress leader reformer chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, will be joining Rahul Gandhi’s Yatra because there were strong speculations a week before that he would join the Bhartiya Janata Party along with his son Nakul Nath, a member of the parliament from Chhindwara. But all such speculations were struck down by Congress leaders and MPs.

According to the Congress leader in Madhya Pradesh, Kamalnath, along with other senior Congress leaders, will be joining the Rahul Gandhi Sneha Yatra on the 2nd of March and will continue to be with him during his six-day tour in Madhya Pradesh.

Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, All India Congress Committee (AICC), in charge of Madhya Pradesh, conducted a review meeting for the preparation related to the Nyay Yatra in which all leaders were present, and Kamalnath and Digvijay Singh joined virtually through Zoom. He also formed various committees for the smooth conduct of the yatra.

Rahul Gandhi will conduct road shows and public meetings in the Datia and Dhar districts of Madhya Pradesh. He will also perform Pooja at the famous Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain.

Agenda of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra

Undoubtedly, the Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra’s main agenda is winning the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. But is this yatra, in some sense, an ideological battle that Mr. Gandhi is leading against the powerful machinery of the Bhartiya Janata Party? In the entire Yatra, Rahul Gandhi’s main agenda is caste census; through this, he is trying to create a perception of Mandal 2.0 (which will ensure social justice for the people of the backward community, as he stated) against the kamandal politics of the BJP.

While addressing his rallies during the yatra, Mr. Gandhi is asking the people how many Dalit Adivasis OBCs are there in our country and how much wealth they have. By this, he was trying to explain to people how unequally wealth has been distributed among a few families and businessmen who are not from this caste (who constitute a majority of the population of India) but are from the upper caste.

In Lucknow, he took a dig at the Prime Minister while referring to the consecration of Ram Lala in the Ram temple in Ayodhya, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister. Mr. Gandhi asked the public how many Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs, laborers, farmers, and poor were there at the consecration ceremony. Only big businessmen and rich people’s actors and actresses were invited to the consecration ceremony.

He promised the people that if the Congress party came into power at the center, they would prioritize the caste census and give a legitimate proportion of the share to the contributor. He coined the popular slogan ‘Jiski jitni Abadi uski utani hissedari’.
