In the latest Kaun Banega Crorepati ( KBC) season 15 promo posted by SonyLiv, Amitabh Bachchan got emotional while he said his signature “Shubraatri (Goodnight) as he shot for the last episode.  He said “ Devio aur Sajjano, hum jaa rahe hai. Kal se yeh manch nahi sajega. App se yeh kehna ki kal se hum yaha nhi aa payenge, yeh na kehne ki himmat hori hai na kehna ka mann hora hai” (Ladies and gentlemen, this stage won’t be set for the show tomorrow; now it’s time to go. I don’t have the courage or the mind to tell you I won’t be returning here tomorrow.). He has hosted the show for 14 seasons

He further said “Main Amitabh Bachchan iss dur ke liye akhri baar apse keh raha hun, Shubraatri. (For the last time I am bidding goodbye from this stage. Goodnight.). The show aired its last episode with Vidya Balan, Sara Ali Khan, Sharmila Tagore, Sheela Devi and Avinash Bharti. Sara Ali Khan relived her childhood memories of attending the show with her dad, Saif Ali Khan and cracked her signature joke – Knock Knock.

The show’s team also played a very special message that said “23 years ago there was a bond that was created between me (KBC’s platform), you and the Indian audience. This has been an inseparable bond and we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts”.

As the actor turned 81, the makers celebrated the occasion with the whole team which left him teary-eyed. On seeing the wishes the actor said “I used to give everyone tissues now I need one. How much will you make me cry? My birthdays on his platform are the best”

Fans’s reaction to the KBC Promo

Fans are confused as it’s unclear if Amitabh Bachchan spoke about his retirement from the show or about the last episode of the season. A section of fans called it the end of an era and were emotional while others want to believe it’s just the end of the season.

One user wrote, “I will miss KBC and Amitabh, sir .. will wait for the next season”. Another user wrote, “Thank You Amit sir for your dedication towards KBC. My grandparents watch KBC every night”. Another user said “ I have loved every episode of the show except the last one. It makes me emotional to see him say goodbye. Two reasons I watch this show are Amit sir and general knowledge”

The last episode aired on 29th December on Sony TV. It featured Avinash Bharti, a contestant from Uttar Pradesh who won Rs 50 lacs. He quit the show at the one crore question which was- “Who was the youngest recipient of the Victoria Cross”?  While speaking to him, Amitabh sir recollected his college days especially his hostel room 27. Both studied at Kirori Mal College, Delhi University.

About Kaun Banega Crorepati

Based on the British show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”, the Indian version of the show premiered on 3rd July 2000. Since then, the show has become the most popular show on Indian television. The tagline of the show “Lock kiya jaye”?  (Shall I lock it) became the catchphrase across the nation. The show’s popularity stems from the format, charismatic hosting of Amitabh Bachchan and the hope it gives the ordinary to win money that can be a life-changing moment. The hot seat became synonymous with people’s dreams. In 2006, the Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan replaced Amitabh Bachchan as the host in its third season but failed to impress the audience.

Bachchan’s departure leaves a void, but his legacy on KBC and Indian television remains.
