Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested holding a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the upcoming BRICS summit, scheduled to be held in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24, 2024.This proposal was raised during a meeting with India’s National Security Advisor(NSA) Ajit Doval in St Petersburg and can be clearly understand by Putin’s statement, “We will be expecting Modi in Kazan. I also suggest holding a bilateral meeting there on Oct 22 in order to close the books on our joint work in implementing the agreements reached during his visit to Moscow and outline some prospects for the near future. ”

Strengthening relationships between India and Russia:

The bilateral meeting focusses on strengthening the areas of defence, energy and trade. The agreement made during the Indian Prime Minister’s recent visit in the land of Moscow that covered several important collaborations. This is will strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnerships, “Statehood”.

Focusing on the Russia Ukraine Conflict:

The meeting may also include with the discussion of Russia- Ukraine Conflict. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and played a proactive role in resolving the conflicts and supporting peace for both the states.The prime minister said India was on the side of peace since the beginning of the conflict and he would even like to contribute personally for a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

Along with India and Russia as one of the key members of BRICS, Brazil, China and South Africa will also attend and involve themselves in the following discussions including the topics of global development and economic corporation. Some of this development that will create a huge positive Impact on BRICS members are:

Strengthening Economic Partnership:

Improving trade relations among its member countries by reducing trade barriers, improvement in infrastructural development etc.

The global financial institutions:

Brics collaborating with the global financial system such as World Bank and International monetary funds, resulting in improvement of emerging economies ad developing nations.

Bringing Financial Stability and Currency:

The members of BRICS may focus in forming their own currency as an alternative to the US dollar, resulting in Financial stability.

Climatic Change and Sustainable Development:

The members of BRICS worked on the concept of Sustainable Development, climate change for renewable energy to meet global climatic goals. Therefore concluding, the BRICS summit during the October and the Bilateral meeting between India and Russia will strengthen the relationship and building the strong defence, geopolitical developments and economic collaboration thus looking forward for a positive and bright future.

Through bilateral meetings, Russia seeks to reinforce economic ties, especially in energy, and push forward initiatives like de-dollarization, which align with its interests in reducing reliance on Western financial systems. Putin’s focus on diversifying alliances is evident, as BRICS represents a bloc capable of balancing Western economic dominance. The summit will likely also delve into regional security issues, the Ukraine conflict, and further exploration of trade agreements.

Therefore , the Brics summit provides a stage for Russia to counter Western narratives, engage with like-minded nations, and solidify its role in a multipolar world order. As BRICS continues to evolve into a stronger coalition of emerging powers, the outcomes of these discussions may have long-term implications for global trade, security, and diplomatic relations.
