BJP announced 16 candidates for Jammu and Kashmir elections

On Monday the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir elections, which will be held in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1.The first list included 15 candidates and the party sought to represent different communities and castes. It has candidates from Jammu and Kashmir regions. The party then also announced its candidate for the position of Konkernag.

Candidates reflecting diverse Demographic

Sources said that the BJP has tried to reflect the diverse demographic makeup of the region and strengthen its outreach to various communities. The party has fielded Syed Showkat Gayoor Andrabi from Pampore, Arshid Bhat from Rajpora, Javed Ahmad Qadri from Shopian, Mohd. Rafiq Wani from Anantnag West, Syed Wazahat from Anantnag while Veer Saraf is battling for Shangus-Anantnag East. The party has fielded Sofi Yousuf from Srigufwara-Bijbehara, Tariq Keen from Inderwal and Salim Bhat from Banihal. 

The only woman on the list, is Shagun Parihar will contest from Kishtwar. The BJP has fielded Sunil Sharma from Padder-Nagseni, Daleep Singh Parihar from Bhadarwah and Gajay Singh Rana from Doda, Shakti Raj Parihar from Doda West and Rakesh Thakur from Ramban constituency. From Kokernag Choudhary Roshan Hussain Gujjar will contest.

The Electoral Commission has published a notification for the first phase of the elections in which 24 mandates will go to the vote.

Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness multi-party fights for most of the seats. This is the first parliamentary election since the repeal of Article 370. In the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year, the BJP won both seats in Jammu, once again demonstrating its strong support in the region The National Conference also won two mandates.
On October 4, the votes will be counted.

The assembly elections for Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir will be held from September 18 to October 1, the Election Commission announced on Friday (August 16, 2024).

While the election will be in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana will have one phase. The counting of elections will take place on October 4, 2024. Maharashtra and Jharkhand are the other states that will go to polls this year.
On August 14, the Election Commission held a meeting with Union Home Minister Ajay Bhalla to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. In December last year, the Supreme Court had ordered the Center to end the electoral process in the Union Territory by September 30, 2024.

The terms of the existing legislative assemblies end on November 3 (Haryana), November 26 (Maharashtra). ) and 5 January 2025 (Jharkhand) and the elections must be held before the end of his term.

To ensure “no voter is left behind” in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission will installation 3 floating polling stations at the Dal Lake and one alongside the LoC to “completely” serve a place that has one hundred% ST population. For the 3 floating polling stations at the Dal Lake, the polling group is taken on ferries and shikaras. “One of the 3 polling stations, Khar Mohalla Aabi Karpora, has most effective 3 voters,” Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said.
