BJP calls for Bengal Bandh today after the Nabanna Demonstration turned violent:

BJP has called for a 12-hour long Bengal Bandh even as the Nabanna Abhijan which was held yesterday had turned violent due to the clashes which had erupted between the protestors and the police personnel.

In the protest of the violence:

Sukanta Majumder who’s the Union Minister in Modi Government and also heads the West Bengal BJP as its President announced a 12-hour Bengal Bandh in the protest of the violence which had erupted during the Nabanna Abhijan.

TMC expresses protest:

The West Bengal Government has opposed the Bandh and said that they will do everything to ensure that there’s no effect on the normal life due to the Bandh which is happening today. Alpan Bandhopadhay who’s the Chief Advisor to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that the government won’t allow any Bandh on Wednesday and he also requested the people not to take part in such bandhs. He also pleaded to the government employees to attend the office.

The advisor also said that transport services will continue to work and they have also asked the shops, marketplaces and other business establishments to remain open. Chandrima Bhattacharya and other ministers of Bengal Government attacked BJP and said that they failed in getting dead-bodies during the march to Nabanna as the police personnel had exercised restraint. She also said that the party has called for the bandh so that there is an economic disruption.

The Nabanna Abhijan Protest:

The Nabanna Abhijan protest was organized by the Chatra Samaj which is a recently established organization. This organization had planned a protest to the Nabanna Abhijan which is also known as West Bengal Secretariat. The TMC government in Bengal had termed the rally as illegal and also said that this was a bid to cause unrest in the state.

Supratim Sarkar who is the Additional Commissioner of Calcutta Police had said that the application of the Paschimbanga Chhatro Samaj was declined because they had failed to take permission for the rally as they failed to seek proper formal permission and didn’t provide formal details. He also said that the organization also posted that they will be doing a Nabanna Abhijan protest but didn’t take any permission which is compulsory as per the directives of the High Court.

Nabanna Abhijan protest led to fight between TMC and BJP, the ruling dispensation in West Bengal said that the protest is illegal but was countered by Senior leader of BJP, Dilip Ghosh who said that Who has given the right to the police to declare call protest as legal or illegal. He said that everyone has a right to protest in a democratic country and also the Apex Court has said that the police force can’t obstruct the peaceful protest or march.

The violence on Tuesday began in Santragachi in Howrah where the protestors were trying to break the barricades which made the situation violent. There were some demonstrators who were trying to get on the barricades too. The protestors included people who were elderly, women, people who were pelting stones, while some were carrying pla-cards and the national flag. The police forces are restored to lathi-charge and firing of tear gas shells to ensure that the crowd gets dispersed.

The police also fired tear gas shells on the BJP delegation led by Sukanta Majumder who were protesting outside the premises of Lal-Bazar police headquarters demanding the release of those protestors who were detained the earlier day.

The national President of JP Nadda targeted the Kolkata Police by highlighting the high-handedness of them, focusing on the crackdown through his tweets.

RG Kar Case:

The Nabanna Abhijan protest was carried out to demand Justice in alleged rape and murder case which happened in RG Kar Hospital which is being probed by CBI.
