Bharatiya Janata Party state president Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state following the recent incident of the alleged rape and murder of a doctor of RG Kar Medical College past hospital. week left the country in shock.

Pointing the finger at the state government for the way the case was handled after the incident, Majumdar said the police were trying to cover things up and asked who the government was trying to protect since it was initially a case of suicide.

Sukanata Majumdar had also written to Union Health Minister JP Nadda two days ago, seeking his intervention in the matter. Highlighting how the family was under “pressure” from the police to perform the last rites of the victim, the BJP leader also claimed that it was an attempt to destroy all the evidence. “In these accidents, biological evidence is very important, whether it is skin, semen or other things that need to be evaluated. These are very important for re-examination. All this before going to the CBI or to delay the submission of CBI questions  Majumdar said: Renovation work is going on in the hospital grounds right in front of the university where the accident took place.

Take Responsibility and Resign Mamata Banerjee : Demanded BJP

The Union Minister of State did not mince words to hold Mamata Banerjee responsible for the incident at the state medical institution. Calling the incident “shameful and unfortunate”, he demanded for the resignation of the TMC leader Mamta Benerjee “any sense of responsibility”.

Majumdar said the Kolkata incident was unusual as a government employee died on duty at a government hospital, adding that nothing similar had happened elsewhere in India.

“That is why the law and order situation in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s state has completely collapsed and she must resign,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the state BJP president had also criticized the Bengal chief minister in a post on X about the “safety situation of women in Bengal”.

“If she had invested in real protection and not empty promises, our girls would not be forced to protest in the streets at midnight,” he said. Underscoring that she should resign from the post, she wrote on Twitter: “If she has a sense of responsibility, she should immediately resign from her positions as Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the flames of protest and other movements demanding justice for women will continue to challenge her and her ineffective government. This comes after the Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to take over the case from the Police. Calcutta amid waves of protests from various medical organizations and health professionals across the country.

The arrested accused, Sanjay Roy, a volunteer citizen, had also confessed to his crimes during interrogation and sought the death penalty for himself.
