CRITICISM
‘Indian 2’ received mostly negative reviews from critics, compared to the original. It was criticized based on outdated writing and lack of emotional depth, meanwhile, the legendary actor Kamal Hassan received praise for his performance. The film received a considerably low rating of 5/10 on the website Rotten Tomatoes.
‘Indian 2’, a high-budget film starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Shankar, had a huge fall in its domestic box office collection on Monday, July 15. Though dips generally are witnessed for new movies on the first Monday, it is yet to be ascertained whether ‘Indian 2’ can do any wonder at the box office so that a decent collection will be possible by the end of the second weekend.
BOX OFFICE COLLECTION
‘Indian 2’ hit screens on July 12, and fans had been hyped for the sequel ever since it was announced. Despite getting mixed to negative reviews, the film has gone over Rs 100 crore worldwide and is now looking at the Rs 150-crore club. ‘Indian 2’ racked up double-digit earnings in Indian theaters over the first three days. Unfortunately, the earnings of the film took a nose dive on Monday, July 15, logging just Rs 3.15 crore net, to post the lowest yet single-day earnings. This is almost Rs 12 crore less than what it earned on Day 3.
As things stand now, in four days, ‘Indian 2’ has collected Rs 62.3 crore net from India. In all likelihood, the route to Rs 100 crore net in India won’t be smooth for this Kamal film. A lion’s share of the box office numbers has come from its Tamil version, even as the Telugu (‘Bharateeyudu 2’) and Hindi (‘Hindustani 2’) versions are performing just about okay.
Average occupancy for ‘Indian 2’ on July 15 was at 16.04%. Well, it was the star power of Kamal Haasan combined with director Shankar that somewhat pulled in the crowds, at least for the initial weekend. The film, however, has to maintain the momentum during weekdays to really manage to collect Rs 150 crore at the box office.
‘Indian 2’ boasts of a star-studded cast, including Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Nedumudi Venu, Vivekh, and Bobby Simhaa. Music for the film is by Anirudh Ravichander and produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies.
