Esteemed actor Donald Sutherland who is known for his versatility was born on 17 July in the year 1935 in New Brunswick. He has a career spanning for over more than 6 decades making him a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
Donald Sutherland’s early life and career
Born to Dorothy Isobel and Frederick Sutherland in 1935, Sutherland graduated from the Victoria University with a double in engineering and drama. He also studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, he was also a part of the Perth Repertory theatre.

He started his journey as an actor by playing small roles in the films and television shows such as “The Sentimental Agent”,” DR. Terror’s House of Horror”, “Die! Die! My Darling” and many more. In the year 1967 he was starred in the war film The Dirty Dozen which was an overnight success and which changed his career for good. He got the lead role in the film “MASH” and there was no going back after that, he appeared in many films such as “Don’t look now”, “The Eagle has landed”, “Eye of the needle” adding feather to the cap.
He has a long standing career of over 65+ years in which he was starred in numerous films and television shows showcasing him as a multifaceted artist.
He received many awards and nominations for his contributions in the industry ranging from the best supporting actor in films and television to the Honorary Academy Award in the year 2017.
With the wide variety of roles he played he is considered as the most versatile actors of all time.
Apart from acting he also joined politics where he used to be a blogger for the US 2008 presidential elections, the blogs reflected his support for Barack Obama.
Personal Life
Sutherland married thrice, He was first married to Lois Hardwick in the year 1959 who was a school teacher and they were divorced in the year 1966. He then married Shirley Douglas which lasted for 4 years and together the duo had 2 children (twins) one of them is a famous Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland. He also had an affair with his co-star Jane Fonda which lasted for around 2 years before he finally decided to tie the knot for the third time in the year 1972 with the famous actress Francine Racette and together they had 3 sons.

Death
Sutherland died on 20 June 2024 at the age of 88 in Miami losing the battle against his long illness and leaving behind his unforgettable legacy and contribution. Fans and family of the star mourn over his death.
