Quick-fire goals by Armando Broja and Mykhailo Mudryk against Fulham FC secured Chelsea FC their first EPL win in 2 months.
Chelsea breeze past Fulham in 2-0 win
Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 in west London after scoring twice in the space of a minute and a half to snap a three-game Premier League goalless streak.
In the 18th minute, Mykhailo Mudryk put an end to his protracted goalless streak for Chelsea by controlling Levi Colwill’s left-wing cross with his chest and beating Bernd Leno to the ball.
Tim Ream, the team’s captain, was at fault when Fulham nearly immediately conceded again after relinquishing control to Cole Palmer and having a save attempt deflected in by Armando Broja.
Due to Nicolas Jackson’s ban and a virus that left Raheem Sterling only fit enough for the bench, Broja was making his first Premier League start of the year. He was excited to seize the chance.
When Mudryk was substituted at halftime after scoring the game’s first goal and Ian Maatsen was put on the left wing, it increased Pochettino’s concerns about injuries.
After some excellent work from the remarkable Conor Gallagher, Maatsen nearly added a picture-perfect third goal when he extended his body to sidefoot against the left-hand post.
Sasa Lukic, a substitute for Fulham, should have cut the deficit in half when he sent a pass from fellow substitute Tom Cairney straight at Robert Sanchez.
Then, with remarkable ease, Mauricio Pochettino’s team completed their second victory of the league season to move up to 11th place.
Chelsea FC’s Goal Scorer Mudryk goes off injured
The Ukrainian winger Mudryk had played 1,000 competitive minutes for Chelsea prior to Monday’s game without scoring. If you split his €100 million transfer cost in half, you’d be paying €100,000 for each minute without a goal.
As the 22-year-old expertly opened the score and gave Leno no chance, relief could be felt. From that moment on, a lot of the anxiety and self-doubt that had accompanied his performances in the Premier League seemed to vanish.
The jagged edges are still there, but Fulham sustained wounds and bruises as a result. Timothy Castagne, the right-back, will have sighed with relief when Mudryk left the field at halftime. Pochettino needs to pray that the injury heals quickly.
He needs this to be the beginning of something, both for himself and the player with whom he has recently begun participating in competitive crossbar challenge sessions. The addition of Broja’s goal after recovering from a torn cruciate knee ligament made it a night of long deserved good news for Chelsea in 2023.
Can Chelsea FC’s Marc Cucurella Perform at RB?
Cucurella must run Mudryk close if he has the misfortune of standing in for Chelsea’s Outrageous expenditures under Todd Boehly’s ownership.
The Spanish left-back, a legend at Brighton, has struggled at Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old was thrown in out of position at right-back tonight after having played a grand total of 0 minutes in the Premier League under Pochettino before. It felt like an accident waiting to happen.
However, Cucurella adhered to his work and completed it to a high standard after practicing against his old team in the Carabao Cup. Even while it wasn’t exactly one of his talents, his positional awareness stood out, and switching sides rarely appeared to be difficult.
Cucurella won’t play right back again once Reece James and Malo Gusto are back in the lineup, but the way he handled a hospital pass brought on by an injury emergency suggests he just might have a future at Chelsea.
