In a recent development, the Madhya Pradesh Congress has filed a police complaint regarding a fake letter circulating on social media. This false letter gave the impression that senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh had resigned from the party after the release of its first list of candidates for the upcoming assembly polls. Singh, a former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, promptly addressed the situation on social media, refuting the claims and accusing the BJP of spreading false information.

Fake Resignation Letter Circulates

The fake resignation letter, which was widely shared on social media platforms, alleged that Singh’s recommended candidates for party tickets were not considered, causing him to resign. The letter further stated that Singh’s self-respect had been hurt as dedicated party workers were seemingly ignored.

Singh’s Response

Responding to the viral social media post featuring the fake resignation letter, Digvijaya Singh took to social media platform X to clarify his stance. He emphatically stated his commitment to the Congress party, affirming that he joined the party in 1971 due to his alignment with its ideology rather than any quest for a position. He stressed that he would remain a part of the Congress “till his last breath.” Furthermore, Singh reported the matter to the police, emphasizing his dedication to the party.

“The BJP is good at speaking lies. I took membership of Congress in 1971 after being influenced by the party’s ideology and not for any post. I will be with the Congress till my last breath. I am getting a complaint registered with the police,” Singh wrote on X (formerly Twitter)

Later, Singh shared on X a copy of the complaint letter submitted by his party to the cyber cell of Bhopal police. “?@DGP_MP Sir, will you file an FIR against these liars,” he wrote.

Congress Releases First List of Candidates

Notably, this incident occurred shortly after the Madhya Pradesh Congress released its first list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections. The list comprises 144 candidates, including Jaivardhan Singh, Digvijaya Singh’s son and a sitting legislator. The assembly elections, which will decide the fate of the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly, are scheduled for November 17.

Electoral Landscape

The electoral landscape in Madhya Pradesh is becoming increasingly competitive. State Congress President and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath will contest from Chhindwara, while Digvijaya Singh’s brother, Lakshman Singh, has been fielded from Chachoura. Furthermore, actor Vikram Mastal, known for his role as Lord Hanuman in a television serial, will represent the Congress in Budhni, Sehore, challenging Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Upcoming Assembly Elections

The Madhya Pradesh assembly elections are set to take place on November 17, with vote counting scheduled for December 3. The main contenders in this election are the ruling BJP and the Congress. In the previous assembly polls in 2018, the Congress secured 114 seats, while the BJP won 109. However, the Congress government was destabilized as several MLAs, led by Jyotiraditya Scindia, defected to the BJP. Subsequently, the BJP regained power in March 2020, with Shivraj Singh Chouhan serving as Chief Minister for another term. The BJP presently holds 127 seats in the assembly.

Expanding Beyond Madhya Pradesh

Beyond Madhya Pradesh, the Congress has also announced candidates for 30 seats in Chhattisgarh and 55 seats in Telangana. Meanwhile, the ruling BJP has revealed candidates for 136 out of the 230 assembly constituencies in the state. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, will run as a candidate from his long-held constituency in Budhni.

In conclusion, as Madhya Pradesh gears up for a crucial assembly election, the political landscape remains dynamic and competitive, with both the Congress and the BJP vying for supremacy. The recent incident involving a fake resignation letter only adds to the intrigue of this electoral battle.
