A recent a landslide swept through Wayanad in Kerala, leaving at least 250 people dead and a trail of destruction behind. This strong landslide hit the areas of Chooralmala and Mundakkai, causing a mammoth trail of destruction in these areas.
In the wake of this devastating landslide, the Kerala government and various other organizations came out very fast. Supplies include food, garments, and other essentials gathered and distributed, relief efforts have been put into full force and furnished towards needy communities.
A multi-agency effort, supplementing voluntary services, provided an effective response to the disastrous landslide in Wayanad, Kerala. The Army, Defence Security Corps (DSC), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Forest and Fire, and Rescue Service personnel deployed their skill and resources relentlessly to reach the affected areas and provide essential aid to the affected areas. It is reportedly a Bailey bridge that the Army has built at Mundakkai, spanning the ravaging gap created by that devastating landslide and enabling rescue personnel to reach far-flung areas that have otherwise become inaccessible due to the devastation, thus making sure of a quick and efficient rescue operation.
Tensions increased between the central government and state administration as both sides indulged in accusations over handling of the disaster. While the state government of Kerala blamed the central government for its failure in issuing timely weather warnings and responding to the disaster, the latter denied the allegations by claiming that all required weather warnings were issued and relief efforts deployed without any delay. What has followed as an outcome is this mired round of accusations at a time when rescue and recovery operations are underway, further amplifying the already fraught situation in Wayanad.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called an all-party meet, and an intensified effort is on to invite better coordination and efficacy in search and rescue operations in Wayanad, Kerala. The meeting brought together state ministers, local legislators representing Wayanad in the state assembly, and political party leaders in a single cause addressing the pressing needs of the affected communities and those still missing following the catastrophic landslide.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condoled and expressed his concern to the people of Wayanad, Kerala in the wake of the devastating landslide that has swept a trail of destruction and loss in its wake. In a statement issued on X, Gandhi said that he and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had scheduled a visit to the affected areas so that they could offer moral support and get a first-hand feel of the situation on the ground, but the authorities told them that continuous rains and torrential weather made it impossible for them to land safely.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi paid a heartfelt visit to the relief camps in Wayanad, Kerala, where families have been seeking shelter and support in the aftermath of the devastating landslide. As per Congress sources, the two leaders planned to visit relief camps set up at the Government Higher Secondary School and St Joseph UP School in Meppadi, providing solace to the survivors seeking refuge in these camps.
