UK’s latest dine-and-dash culprit is a couple who fled from a restaurant in Westbourne without paying the bill which came up to £120 which is approximately Rs 12,000. The catch is that they posted pictures of their meal on Facebook before leaving.
The term ‘Dine-and-Dash’, even though quite self-explanatory, is the act where a customer orders and consumes a meal or food items from a restaurant but leaves without paying for it.
An unidentified couple, on August 5th, visited the Lazy Fox in Westbourne, Dorset for what we can call an extravagant meal. They seemed to enjoy their order of gourmet burgers, halloumi, and sweet potato fries, and wrapping it up with a Biscoff cheesecake, all while sipping on six expresso martinis.
The restaurant released a video which showed the couple taking an hour to finish their meal before the woman stepped out for “a cigarette” and the man followed her after which they never returned. According to the establishment, they even posted a few pictures of their meal on Facebook, a move that surprised everyone.
Reactions from the Establishment
“It’s a big hit for a small business like ours,” said Mauricio Spinola, the co-owner of the Lazy Fox. He claimed that if it’s not returned, the money would be a burden on his already “cash-strapped business”.
The waitress who served the couple said that the woman was blonde with heavy red lipstick and “wore a white top under a white dress.” She claimed that the woman was a bit intoxicated but they were both a bit energetic.
Enoely Fernandez, a co-owner of the Lazy Fox, stated that the couple were “silly” for boasting about the meal they never paid for on Facebook. He continued to say that the man did not look suspicious. “He wasn’t drunk. He wasn’t shouting. He wasn’t disruptive. He asked to go out for a cigarette and of course, we said that was fine”, continued Fernandez. He also that it was quite a difficult situation for the bar staff as they had to be reassured that they did not do anything wrong. “It’s just really annoying for everyone”, he said.
Previous Records
The owners had posted a post on social media slamming the couple for their actions and various other establishments have come forward proving that this was not the couple’s first rodeo.
Urban Garden, a restaurant in Bournemouth, accused the couple of eating a meal worth £170 and leaving the establishment without paying for it. It is also believed that they did the same in another establishment called the Westbourne Grill House.
