Dadasaheb Phalke Awards 2024: See the list of winners

Hosted in Mumbai, the heart of the Indian film industry, the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) attracts filmmakers, actors, musicians and industry professionals from across the country. The 2024 edition, held on February 20, continued the tradition of acknowledging excellence and innovation in filmmaking. The function was held at Taj Lands End, a hotel in Mumbai. Shah Rukh Khan’s movies Jawan and Pathaan top the charts.

Introduction and History of Dadasaheb Phalke Awards

Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honor award in the Indian film industry. It is presented by the Directorate of Film Festivals each year during the National Film Awards ceremony. The honoree is recognized for their exceptional contribution to the expansion and advancement of Indian cinema. A shawl, a cash reward of ₹1,000,000, and a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion are included in the award.

The Government of India instituted this prize in 1969 as a way to honor the contribution made in the Indian film industry by  Dadasaheb Phalke, often recognized as the “the father of Indian cinema”.

  • Best Actor in a Comic Role – Ayushmann Khurranna, for his movie  “Dream Girl 2”
  • Best Actor in a Web Series – Shahid Kapoor, for his series  “Farzi”
  • Best Actor in a Web Series (Critics) – Aditya Roy Kapur, for his series “Night manager”
  • Most Promising Actor – Vikrant Massey, for his movie “12th Fail”
  • Best Actress – Rani Mukherji, for her movie “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway”
  • Best Actress (Critics) – Kareena Kapoor Khan, for her movie  “Jaane Jaan”

  • Best Cinematographer – Gnana Shekar V.S., for his movie  “IB71”
  • Best Actor in a Television Series – Neil Bhatt, for his show “Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin”
  • Best Actress in a Television Series – Rupali Ganguly, for her show “Anupamaa”
  • Television Series of the Year – Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Film Industry – Moushumi Chatterjee

Shah Rukh Khan

King Khan received the best actor award. Additionally, his two highest grossing films, Jawan and Pathaan have also received several awards.

Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen with “Pathaan” in 2023 created quite a buzz among his fans and the industry. He has once again proved that his era is never going to get over.
