Barcelona is unable to register Dani Olmo before the deadline, which makes him a free agent. On top of that, they have to pay him his entire salary and the remaining signing fee (€48M) to RB Leipzig. Joan Laporta is being blamed for the situation, as this is not the first instance; Pau Victor is the other name not registered who will probably go on a loan.
As things stand, Dani Olmo is a free agent and can join any club of his choice without any interference from Barcelona. Interest from the PL is seen as Man United, Man City, and Arsenal are monitoring the situation and trying to profit by signing the Spanish attacker for free.
Pau Victor, who is a La Masia graduate, is also unregistered currently, but in his case, a loan is possible where he will play for any club for the remaining six months of the season.
Laporta’s mistake?
The Messi saga was even bigger in 2020 and 2021 compared to this, and all these proceedings are said to be done under Laporta, president of Barca. The curlers are now disappointed by the treatment of the club in certain cases.
The club has been in a battle against La Liga to re-register their summer signing; however, the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation) confirmed that they could not help in any process without La Liga’s approval.
Santi Gimenez (diario AS): “Dani Olmo and Pau Victor must be in absolute shock watching how their sporting future is in the hands of people so irresponsible. Laporta is doing what he always does, improvising until the last second.”
According to El Chiringuito TV, it is now Olmo’s decision whether he will activate the clause in his contract to become a free agent or stay at the club without game time.
Barcelona’s next step
Barca officially announced their application to RFEF for a new registration for Olmo and Victor.
The club can now do nothing more than apply for granting them a little more time for the process.
Olmo’s agent said, “The decision made by Dani is to STAY at Barcelona as he wants to play for Barça.”.
Jose Alvarez Haya, who is a Spanish journalist, said Barcelona has not given up yet and has 72 hours more to get the job done. However, the player himself too remained professional and trained on New Year’s Eve.
The club already lacks depth in the squad, and now if players like Olmo and Pau Victor have to leave, they will be left with few options to play with. For the management and the fans, this situation is disgraceful, and they want a solution as soon as possible.
