Marvel Studios officially announced the first Deadpool 3 trailer during the 2024 Super Bowl, teasing an epic battle, brand-new villains and multiverse madness. The first look of the movie promises to break the Internet as Ryan Reynolds joins the MCU with plenty of R-rated jokes.
After almost six years, the end of Fox’s X-Men movie series and taking over by Disney, Deadpool is finally back — and he has arrived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only is Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson back, but he’s also bringing Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine — who fans last saw die in 2017’s farewell movie Logan.

What the trailer is all about
The first look of the trailer has dropped, and as Marvel diehard-fans predicted, it’s here to shake up the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 2024 Super Bowl arrived with just enough to tease the fans before the movie’s July 26th release: a premise, loads of crossovers, and most importantly, multiversal chaos that has the potential to leave the MCU in a welcome state of disarray.
The first movie in the Deadpool franchise followed the anti-hero seeking revenge against Ajax, the man who changed him into a mutant and left him disfigured. The second installment highlighted Deadpool organizing the X-Force team to fight against the time-travelling soldier, Cable.
When Disney took over 20th Century Fox in one of the greatest entertainment industry shifts, there was one notable casualty: Deadpool. In 2019, it seemed as if there was no hope for an R-rated character in Disney’s MCU pantheon.
The trailer shows the Time Variance Authority (TVA), the multiverse managers last seen in Loki Season 2, kidnap Deadpool while he’s celebrating his birthday with friends and bring him into the MCU. Calling himself ‘Marvel Jesus’, Deadpool ensures to bring his R-rated jokes and fourth-wall breaking antics into Disney’s ‘goody-two-shoes’ brand image. Wolverine’s face isn’t shown except his claws, but he can be seen from behind, as our protagonist faces off against him at the end of the trailer — only his shadow has been shown.
The movie borrows Loki’s TVA, featuring the new agent Paradox — most likely inspired by a TVA judge called Paradox who appeared in a single issue of She-Hulk. In the comics, Paradox has a tiny role and as a TVA agent, his powers are limited yet almost supreme. In one instance, he nearly erases Jennifer Walters, also known as She-Hulk from history. Despite his minimal comic portrayal, it appears Marvel is taking Paradox to greater heights by turning him into a central character in the new movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine: part of MCU Phase 5
The teaser establishes that Wade is more than ready to join, going as far as calling himself the ‘Messiah.’ The trailer also confirms that the Fox-Marvel universe is, in one way or another, being tied together to a definitive end. Logan grabs the spotlight in the final few seconds of the trailer as he approaches Wade, but exactly how he’s back remains a mystery for now.
Directed by Shawn Levy, who also co-wrote the script with Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, the filmmaker had been very secretive about whether a trailer for the new film would be arriving during the Super Bowl.
Since this trailer is called a teaser, there will likely be a full-length official trailer before the movie’s release this summer. However, with the sneak peek now released, it’s a great first look at Deadpool & Wolverine, building up what will easily be one incredible game-changer for the MCU. With the tagline “Everyone deserves a happy ending”, this epic multiverse plot is guaranteed to change the cinematic universe forever.
