The Delhi Coaching Flood Case soon garnered attention.

Growing Anger Among Students due to Delhi Coaching Floods

This incident has garnered anger among the students and the aspirants of Rau’s Coaching Centre, where the incident actually happened. Families of the dead students accused the coaching staff for their negligence and have demanded action against them. They have also alleged that they weren’t allowed to see the bodies of their dead children.

One of them, Shreya Yadav, a 25-year-old student from Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, joined Rau’s IAS coaching institute in April 2024. As the eldest of three siblings, Shreya moved to Delhi with the dream of passing one of the country’s toughest examinations.

Shreya held a B.Sc. (Agriculture) from Sultanpur’s Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology.. Known for her academic prowess since childhood, her family and teachers remembered her as a promising student.

Her father, Rajendra Yadav, runs a dairy shop in Ambedkar Nagar. One of her brothers, Abhishek Yadav, is a Mass Communication student.

Rajendra Yadav claimed that Shreya had previously informed the family about the basements getting flooded after rain and that the institute had done nothing to address the issue. He alleged that the institute did not inform him about the incident, and he learned about it through the media. Meanwhile, Shreya’s uncle, Dharmendra Yadav, alleged that he was not allowed to see her body at the hospital.

Police Detains Protesting Students

After several students came out of protests in the streets of Old Rajendra Nagar in New Delhi, demanding action against the authorities of Rau’s Coaching Centre and compensation for the families who lost their children, the Delhi Police arrested many protesting students.

The students were raising slogans of “We want justice” near the Karol Bagh Metro Station which caused huge traffic problems, leading to a police crackdown on the protestors.

A scuffle broke out between the students and the police, resulting in the detention of several protesters who were taken away in a bus. Subsequently, many demonstrators dispersed, allowing traffic movement to resume in the area..

The police utilized body cameras and drones to monitor the protesters’ activities during the demonstration. Officials reported that Shreya Yadav from Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Navin Dalwin from Ernakulam, Kerala, died after the basement of the building housing Rau’s Study Centre was flooded after heavy downpour in central Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar on the Saturday evening.
