The Indian contingent concluded its remarkable run at the Paris Paralympics by securing a record total of 29 medals, including seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze medals, surpassing India’s previous record of 19 medals achieved at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. It marks a significant milestone in the nation’s Paralympic history.
PCI President sets target ahead of 2028 Paralympics
Devendra Jhajharia, President of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), has set an ambitious target for the upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics. He promised that India will aim to secure between 40 and 50 medals. “We won’t stop here. Our mission is big. We have started preparing for the next Paralympics. I am confident that in the LA 2028 Paralympics, we will perform better,” Devendra Jhajharia stated.
Meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the Indian Paralympic team at his residence. The gathering was attended by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse, and Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) President Devendra Jhajharia. Jhajharia expressed his gratitude for Modi’s support, stating, “The biggest support we had was from PM Modi. You all met him, and you all have a smile on your face.” Modi’s encouragement was widely acknowledged as a key factor in the athletes’ success, reinforcing the vital role of government support in their achievements.

During the meeting, Raksha Khadse praised the Paralympic athletes for their extraordinary achievements. “You have a special gift and power that has helped you come such a long way.
