DMK and Congress Finalize the Deal

Filmmaker Kamal Hassan met Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin and State Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin at DMK office. The ruling party in Tamil Nadu, DMK has finalized a Seat Sharing deal with Congress and Filmmaker Kamal Hassan has also joined this Deal.

Kamal Hassan Joined the Alliance for Welfare of the Nation

Kamal Hassan, who is also a Filmmaker, made the announcement for the Alliance on March 9. He said that his Party is not contesting for the election this year. He also said that he will cooperate and support the Congress-DMK Alliance not just for position but for the Nation. General Secretary of “Makkal Needhi Maiam” (MNM) said that the party will not contest in the election but will support and campaign. She also emphasized on “One seat of MNM in Rajya Sabha (in 2025)”.

DMK was preparing for the Deal with India Bloc ally

DMK had been preparing to crack the Seat Sharing deal with Congress, an India Bloc ally. Last year DMK leader and Chief Minister Of Tamil Nadu Udhayanidhi Stalin hinted the Alliance with Kamal Hassan’s party MNM, way ahead of the parliamentary polls.Hassan also indicated and gave a hint towards his keen interest towards the DMK leader Congress in Tamil Nadu.According to the sources MNM will be campaigning for the alliance in the 39 Lok Sabha seats in TamilNadu and Puducherry.

Why did Congress accept this Deal?

This is because BJP has failed to perform well in Tamil Nadu in the last general elections. The result of the elections clearly showed the downfall of BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tamil Nadu.Also, DMK scored dominant wins with Congress in 2019 (general elections) and 2021 (state elections).MK Stalin is keen to repeat its history from 2019.

Official Announcement yet to be made

The Official Announcement of this Alliance has yet not taken place. But the reports suggest that it will take place on Saturday or Sunday.Negotiations on the Seat-sharing Deal are still going on.

Communist Party of India is also a part of the ruling party

Party like Communist Party of India(CPI), Communist Party of India(Marxist)[CPM], and also The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) are a part of the Ruling Alliance in Tamil Nadu. These parties will also contest on 2 seats each on their own respective symbols.

Changes in 3 seats according to Congress

According to the sources of the Congress Party, DMK will agree for all the 9 seats but there will be changes made for the 3 Seats. When DMK Leaders were asked regarding this, they kept their mouth shut.A meeting regarding the seats will be held with the Senior Leaders of DMK and Congress Leaders at the DMK Headquarters- Anna Arivalayam. DMK’s T.R. Baalu and S. Duraimurugan will be representing the DMK,While from the other party, Selvaperunthagai will represent Congress.K. Selvaperunthagai, President of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) said that they (Congress) are expecting for all the 9 seats that they contested for in 2019 and also 1 seat in puducherry.This will be finalized in the Meeting on Sunday with DMK Leaders.The DMK had finalized seat-sharing for 9 Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha seats; they were Keen to replicate their alliance’s victory in 2019 where it won 38 out of 39 parliamentary constituencies. Negotiations with Congress, however, are still ongoing because DMK is repeating its 2019 offer of 9 seats. The Congress won 8 constituencies last time.
